'Batman Arkham Knight' Delayed For Town Planning Reasons

XBOX

The hugely anticipated Batman game, Arkham Knight has been subject to a pretty serious delay, Rocksteady Studios have announced. It was supposed to be one of 2014’s biggest releases, but has now been pushed back to 2015 so they can get it 100% right.

Batman: Arkham Knight

"We just want to make this the best experience that we can, and that takes time," Rocksteady Studios marketing manager Guy Perkins told GameSpot. "We feel that we have an absolutely awesome game in the works, and we want to make it as great as it possibly can be. We just need more time to do that. If we didn't give the team more time to do it, then we would be releasing something that we weren't happy with. We want to make sure we're absolutely nailing it 100 percent."

'Murdered: Soul Suspect' Arrives To Lukewarm Reviews

XBOX

Murdered: Soul Suspect arrived today, but instead of providing a worthy alternative to Watch Dogs, which everyone is playing, it has whimpered into existence, receiving lukewarm reviews upon its entry to a wholly non-saturated genre.

Murdered Soul Suspect

As Detective Ronan O'Connor, your primary role is to solve crimes. The twist: you’re a ghost and you’re trying to solve your own murder. Unfortunately, the majority of the critics weren’t impressed with the core dynamic of the game, leading to a score of 59 on Metacritic.

Preview: The 4 Video Games You Must Own This Summer

XBOX

It’s almost June. The temperature is rising, the flowers are blooming, and everyone is scurrying to make plans with their friends on how to make the upcoming season a summer to remember. But, even with school out and the sun shining as bright as ever, the next few months are going to be a bit tough to get through if you’re a video game fan. While spring isn’t a massive season for games, it gets even worse during the summer. From June 10 to June 12 will be E3, otherwise known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Murdered Soul SuspectMurdered: Soul Suspect is one of the most intruiging games of the season

Gamers will get to see what their favorite studios have under wraps as far as their projects go, but the worst part is that every exciting game shown off is just merely a preview for something that won’t be released for quite a while. The anticipation adds to the summer pain. However, the summer isn’t completely hopeless for games, and while you’ll have to wait until fall to get a taste of new Call of DutyBattlefield, or Assassin’s Creed, there’s plenty of titles coming out soon that should hold you over until then.

'Battlecry' Looks Like Half Life 2, Dishonoured And Final Fantasy VII. And That's Amazing

XBOX

With all the tumult surrounding the new generation of games being developed for the PS4 and XBOX One, the PC platform is secretly amassing a plethora of exciting new titles. None more than ‘Battlecry’, a free-to-play online game from Half Life 2 and Dishonoured world artist, Viktor Antonov.

Watch the trailer. First thing we noticed was a smattering of Dishonoured; the post-apocalyptia has us pining for Fallout, then we were back in Nibleheim admiring Cloud’s sword. Then we were right back in Half Life 2. PC owners out there should be excited.

Watch Dogs PR Stunt Results In Huge Bomb Scare And Evacuations In Sydney

XBOX

Either Ubisoft’s marketing team managed to misjudge everything about their Australian marketing stunt, or they knew exactly what they were doing. Either way, the game has hit the news because of a black, beeping safe that caused a huge bomb scare in the heart of Sydney.

Watch Dogs

Picture the scene: you’re a journalist, and you receive a black safe with a note telling you to check your voicemail. But you don’t have voicemail, and when the police try to open the safe, it beeps. No other journalists you know have received a similar box.

Battlefield Steps Away From 'All Out Warfare' And Into Cops Vs Robbers With "Hardline"

XBOX

The Battlefield franchise has always been good for one thing: all out, guns blazing warfare. But after 12 titles, allowing players to step into battle in World War II, the present day and in the year 2142, the franchise is taking a more localised approach to conflict, examining the microcosm of war that is law enforcement v criminal.

Battlefield Hardline

This comes after Battlefield’s main rival, Call of Duty, released a new trailer for Advanced Warfare, which features the acting talents of Kevin Spacey, whose popular character in House of Cards enjoyed an online session to let off some steam.

Wolfenstein: The New Order Reviews - Alternate History Shooter Is One Of The Franchise's Best

XBOX

It’s been a long and chequered lifespan for Wolfenstein, the alternative history shooter that depicts a world in which the Nazis won the war. Having re-invented – if not invented – the first person shooters we know and love today, some of the series’ entries haven’t hit the mark.

Wolfenstein: The New OrderBattle your way through hordes of super-Nazis

But in The New Order, we have the most polished, most playable and, most importantly, richest storyline to date. It’s not perfect – some, scrap that, most critics have had niggles and slight problems they felt were important enough to mention in their respective reviews, but an overall score of 78 on Metacritic means fans of Wolfenstein will almost certainly come back for more Nazi-crushing action, while newcomers will likely find this to be the most accessible incarnation yet.

Confirmed And Rumored Games Ahead Of E3

XBOX

E3 represents a rare period in which industry bods, the press and fans are equally excited; new projects are announced and existing and upcoming titles are given glamorous progress updates.

But some developers have jumped the gun. Some, probably wary of far too accurate leaks; others possibly attempting to create their own limelight ahead of the fanfare that is June 10-12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Either way, there are a couple of huge games confirmed and plenty churning through the rumor mill.

Microsoft To Let Users Access Netflix Without Paid-For Membership In June

XBOX

Good news for Netflix fans that own an XBOX 360 or ONE console; Microsoft have finally loosened their grip on the streaming service, allowing users to access it without paying the $60 yearly subscription fee for Xbox Live Gold. Hulu Plus, YouTube, and HBO Go are some other services to be freed from behind the paywall.

Netflix

Arstechnica first released the story as a rumor, but it didn’t take long for Microsoft to confirm it in what appears to be a shakeup of policy at the company. Sony and Nintendo both let users access services like Netflix for free without having to pay for a subscription service.

The Kinect-Less Xbox ONE Has The Reverse Effect As Fans Express Anger At Microsoft U-Turn

XBOX

Microsoft have said a lot of things in the past year, and maybe it’s because Sony are doing so well with their PS4, or maybe they’re genuinely listening to their current and prospective customers, but they’ve gone back on a lot of things, too. The latest sees the XBOX ONE ship without Kinect.

Xbox

Kicking off in June, the new console will be available at a cheaper price-point without the Kinect camera that lets owners control the interface with physical and voice commands. It will cost $399 USD, £349, 399 Euros and $499 AUD. The Kinect was first introduced for the Xbox 360, but never really took off as an add-on product. When it was announced that the ONE would ship with a Kinect 2 as standard, fans were upset at the lack of options.

The E.T Game WAS Buried After All - 5 Other Games That Should Be In A Landfill

XBOX

The E.T videogame debacle was fully uncovered over the past few days as a film production team confirmed the ‘conspiracy theory’ that Atari had buried over 700,000 cartridges of the game out of pure shame. With just 5 weeks to complete E.T, the developer couldn’t faithfully translate the classic movie into a fitting videogame, and so the story goes.

Atari

But E.T isn’t the only videogame ‘deserved’ of the landfill treatment. For every ‘Super Metroid’, ‘Super Mario’, ‘Ocarina of Time’, ‘Final Fantasy VII’, ‘Chrono Trigger’, ‘Portal’ and ‘Last of Us’, there’s a stinker of a game; ill-conceived, packed with terrible gameplay dynamics, poorly planned storylines, lamentable characters and disgusting aesthetics. Here are five other games that could – and maybe should – have been buried under concrete, in no particular order.

As Expected, Video Game Baftas Was Dominated By 'The Last Of Us

XBOX

‘The Last of Us’ is widely considered to be the best single player game ever made. It reached the summit of many ‘game of the year’ and ‘top ten’ lists – including ours – and polished everything off with five awards at last night’s Video Game Baftas.

Last of UsThe Last of Us cleaned up at last night's Baftas

The post-pandemic thriller is a story about the two central characters rather than the world that surrounds them, but that’s not to say the backdrop isn’t anything short of jaw dropping. In terms of story, character development and technical achievement, The Last of Us broke new ground for video games.

Far Cry 3 Writer Lucien Soulban Can’t See A Gay Videogame Protaganist Happening, Not For A While At Least

XBOX

As videogames grow in popularity and importance, at least to the as-of-yet non-gaming public, the debates surrounding protagonists, antagonists and themes become further polarized, more widespread and increasingly intense. The writer of Farcry 3, Lucien Soulban, has kicked off – or at least reignited – the debate about gay characters in videogames, suggesting that we won’t see one “for a while,” because “of fears that it'll impact sales” on the official Ubisoft blog.

The Last of Us Left BehindRiley and Ellie from The Last of Us' Left Behind DLC

"So either we'll see a bait-and-switch like the original Metroid with Samus Aran where we'll find out damn near after the fact (PS: And Dumbledore was gay), or it'll come out of left field with Rockstar, Valve, Naughty Dog or Telltale, perhaps. But when it happens, I hope it's a serious take on it and not played up for jokes."

'Fable 3' Isn't Exactly Peter Molyneux's Favourite Game Of All Time

XBOX

If you keep up with gaming related news, then you’ll know that Peter Molyneux is somewhat of a character in the industry. He famously quit Microsoft after receiving numerous lifetime achievement awards, and ventured into his own, independent studio: 22Cans.

Fable LegendsLionhead Studios' Fable Legends

His most famous game was probably Fable, which was popular back on the XBOX, and earned three reiterations and will be reborn again as Fable: Legends for Xbox ONE. He was also responsible for Dungeon Keeper and Theme Park.

Grand Theft Auto V Surpasses The $1 Billion Mark In Just Three Day - What Makes It Such A Money Maker?

XBOX

Grand Theft Auto V arrived in stores at the beginning of the week in a flurry of excitement and anticipation for the latest instalment of the controversial game series. It took just three days for the game to take in $1 billion, easily justifying it's label as the most expensive game of all time, and was released to nothing but rave reviews, but what is it that makes GTA such a popular title?

Stabbing And Robbery Mars GTA V Launch In London

XBOX

One of the most expensive, highly anticipated and controversial games in history launched today – at the stroke of midnight in many cases across the UK and America – but it was in the English capital that a 23-year-old man was stabbed and robbed on his way home from buying the game.

Ironically, GTA V and its predecessors has been criticized for inciting the kind of behaviour exhibited last night, and detractors will surely cite the in-game violence as a possible pretext to the violent crime.

XBOX

The GTA V release date is tomorrow, September 17th. The GTA V reviews are yet to be released. GTA V pre-orders have been dispatched early by Amazon and retailers have been allegedly selling copies early. You guess it: The GTA V makers, Rockstar, aren’t happy.

But there are plenty of happy people who got their games early, in some cases, people saw a copy of the highly anticipated game plop through their letterboxes on Saturday (Sept 14), making for a weekend of debauchery. At least it’s from the comfort of their living rooms, right?

Can Xbox Live Become The Nation’s Favourite Sci Fi Channel? Microsoft Retooling 'Blake’s 7

XBOX

Like, Netflix, XBOX Live is heading down the exclusive content route; having already promised a Halo TV series, which of course is exclusive to Microsoft, Blake’s 7 is also heading to the console-turned-entertainment hub.

The move is a clear indication of Microsoft’s intention to challenge popular streaming services like Netflix, Lovefilm and Hulu+ having already secured the rights to live-stream television from some providers: something their competitors can’t do.

Microsoft To Push Xbox Live Content With 'Blake's 7' Comeback

XBOX

Microsoft are keen to push XBOX Live – with their new Xbox One console coming out in November of this year – to the next level, offering up exclusive content for their customers.

And this doesn’t just mean games; the company are breaching protocol, much like Netflix did with House of Cards, and bringing television to their streaming platform, meaning Xbox Live could become another destination for top TV.

Microsoft knows its customers, too, especially gamers. They may have scared them somewhat with threats of DRM on their upcoming console, but when it comes to programming, they seem to have it right. An official, exlusive Halo TV series is already planned; Blake’s 7 is set to follow.
