Video game fans were punched right in the childhood during Sony’s E3 press conference on Tuesday. In midst of all the announcements for upcoming games, a wild trailer appeared for a ‘Ratchet & Clank’ feature film, and man, does it look awesome. The minute long trailer gives some insight into what the plot is all about, as it will focus on the origins of Ratchet and how him and his robot buddy Clank came to be. Along with the movie, it was also announced that the first game of the series will be getting remade into a version for PlayStation 4, which basically doubles the excitement here.

First released in 2002, the ‘Ratchet & Clank’ game franchise was essential in the growth of PlayStation 2 as it was one of the system’s highest selling titles exclusive to the console. Though over ten years old, the games are still being produced pretty often. Overall, there’s been nearly ten R&C titles with the most recent released in 2013, which was also the first year that the movie was said to be in development. Set for release sometime in 2015, the ‘Ratchet & Clank’ movie is shaping up to be as good as it was from the day it was announced. Director Kevin Munroe is manning the project, and he’s probably best known for his direction of ‘TMNT’ back in 2007. Additionally, Munroe is directing the film adaptation of another PlayStation 2 title, ‘Sly Cooper.’

Perhaps the best part of the Ratchet movie is the fact that the voice actors from the game will be the same in the movie, but for the 2016 Sly film, the voice actors are going to be different. Not that it matters too much, but hearing the exact same voices will definitely bring back the nostalgia from when we were watching the cutscenes back in the day.

The Last of UsThe Last Of Us Movie Is On The Way

With these two PS2 movies incoming, we had to wonder: which other PlayStation exclusives would make for some great movies? A lot are actually already in development, or at least in the planning stages: games like Devil May Cry, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, and The Last of Us should be hitting the silver screen someday in the future. However, there’s some other titles that need consideration, too. ‘Jak and Daxter,’ released in 2001, has everything needed to succeed as a movie. Lighthearted and humorous, a movie for Jak and Daxter could capture everything there was to love about the game so many years ago.

You’ve also got Crash Bandicoot and Spyro -- two characters just begging to be the stars of a film like they were with their game. Even the PlayStation 4 launch title, 'Knack,' could make for a decent movie. However, none are quite as suitable for the big screen as much as Sackboy is, the loveable sack-thing from all the current LittleBigPlanet games. With LittleBigPlanet 3 arriving in November, it’s only going to make the demand for a movie bigger than ever.

We’re quick to wish for these game movies, but we also don’t want them to suck. Even though the ‘Ratchet & Clank’ trailer may have punched our childhood (in a nice way, of course), the movie is going to spit in its face and bury it into the ground if it ends up being awful. Maybe these filmmakers are doing us a favor and only making ones for our favorites when they know they’re going to be good. That’s a positive outlook, right? Then again, I guess nothing could possibly be as bad as the ‘Super Mario Bros.’ movie.
