Zac Efron Defends Bodyguard Against Skid Row Homeless Attackers

Zac Efron was attacked by a group of "transients" after running out of gas in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday (22nd March).

26-year-old Efron was on his way, accompanied by his bodyguard, to a restaurant in Little Tokyo when the car they were travelling in ran out of fuel. It seems Efron and his bodyguard threw a glass bottle out of the car window and, according to reports in TMZ, a group of homeless people assumed the bottle was being thrown at them. The bottle allegedly did not hit anyone and smashed on the pavement but a group of at least three men approached Efron's car.

Efron's unnamed bodyguard allegedly intervened and was attacked the group of men. Efron was forced to step in but was hit in the face by one of the "transients". TMZ reports Efron told police the punch "was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life".

The bodyguard claimed one of the attackers went at him with a spear and Efron, after being hit, continued to defend his companion by swinging a vodka bottle at the group of attackers to fend off further attacks. There seems to be some contention as to whether the bottle was thrown out of the car or not. The bodyguard claims the vodka bottle Efron used to fend off the attackers was the same one which police officers believed was thrown. Thus, the bodyguard has seemingly backtracked on his story in the time since the attack.

Efron was, according to TMZ's police sources, "obviously intoxicated" whilst his bodyguard has a series of drug and violent crime charges. Whether the pair was truly up to no good cannot be ascertained but it certainly wasn't a brilliant place to break down - let alone litter. Skid Row is renowned for crime which may result from the poverty found in the area, according to L.A. Downton News. The area also has one of the highest population densities of homeless people in the U.S. Estimates, as recorded on the L.A. Chamber of Commerce website, with over 2500 "transients" living within a 0.4 mile area.

No charges have been brought against Efron, the bodyguard or the group of homeless people as police believed it to be "mutual combat".
