Zachary Quinto and Brian Cox will star opposite Peter Sarsgaard and Mary-Louise Parker in NBC's adaptation of Peter Saggington's controversial book, The Slap. The show is described as a complex family drama that explodes when a man slaps another couple's misbehaving child.

The show is based on the acclaimed Australian drama series, which in turn is based on Tsiolkas' bestselling book. The show will explore how the incident results in strained relationships and a lawsuit that "challenges the core American values of all who are pulled into it.

Quinto will play Harry - a married mechanic who lives in a Brooklyn loft with his family, including his 15-year-old son. He's also trying to pick a fight but messes with the wrong guy when he slaps another couple's misbehaving child.

Brian Cox will play Manolis - the bearded patriarch of the family - while Peter Sarsgaard will play husband and father Hector who shows signs of weaknesses when he finds himself succumbing to the advances of his wife's teenaged receptionist during his own party. Hector is Harry's cousin. Parker will play Anouk, a close friend of Hector who's the head writer on a popular TV show and is dating the younger leading man.

The Slap, an 8-hour miniseries, will hit screens sometime in 2015. The pilot episode was written by Jon Robin Baitz and will be directed by the Oscar nominated director of 'The Kids are All Right', Lisa Cholodenko.
