Zack Snyder: Film Career
Zack Snyder directed a number of commercials for large multinational corporations, such as Nissan, Audi, BMW, Nike and Reebok. An advert that he directed for Jeep won him a Gold Lion Award.
His debut feature film came in 2004 with the remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. The film starred Ving Rhames and Sarah Polley and was highly regarded among horror movie fans and three years later, Snyder released 300, which was based on Frank Miller's graphic novel series of the same name. The film starred Gerard Butler and Rodrigo Santoro.
In 2009, Snyder's highly anticipated adaptation of Watchmen, also originally by Frank Miller, was released. On the first day of its release, the film grossed over $25 million. Among the stars of the film are Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode and Sally Jupiter. The film has been the subject of some controversy, as Miller himself refused to have any involvement in the making of the film, whereas he was the executive producer on 300. Also, Warner Brothers have attempted to market Snyder as a legendary visionary producer. It has been reported that Snyder himself finds this uncomfortable, given his relative inexperience in film-making.
After completing Watchmen, Snyder began working on a new project entitled Guardians of Ga'Hoole, which will star Amanda Seyfried and was co-written by Steve Shibuya. He has also started work on W.I.T.C.H The Movie, another graphic novel adaptation, due for release in 2010 and Sucker Punch, due for release in 2011.
