Mayweather vs Pacquiao might have been billed as the fight of the century last weekend, but don’t underestimate the drama which can occur when a former boyband member, his producer and his ex-bandmate get into a twitter spat. Yes just over a month after One Direction went from five to four, it appears the gloves are well and truly off between former member Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

Zayn MalikZayn announced his departure from the boyband back in March.

It all started on Wednesday afternoon, when producer Naughty Boy, who’s been working with Zayn on solo material, tweeted an pic of the pair using an image filter along with the caption, ‘Replace this’.

Sometime later Zayn’s former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson sent out what we’re sure was a totally unrelated tweet which read, "Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha! Some people still do HA!” Ouch.

Putting two and two together and getting that Tomlinson had just thrown some major shade his way, the producer replied by writing, ‘@Louis_Tomlinson and some people can't even sing...but who's complaining when there's auto tune eh’.

Then it was Louis’ turn, who fired back with, ‘Jesus forgot you were such an in demand producer. How does it feel to be riding on the back of someone else's career?’

One DirectionAs they are now: One Direction.

Naughty Boy then responded with, ‘Yeah how does it feel mate? You've been doing that for the last five years... I've got Emeli Sande and Sam smith on my CV.’ Not to be outdone, Louis quickly returned the insult writing, ‘good for you , well done !! I think we've done alright in terms of sales and I've happened to write on most. Keep trying!'

Then Zayn himself decided to get involved in the drama, tweeting, ‘@Louis_Tomlinson remember when you had a life and stopped making bitchy comments about mine?’ Fans of the boyband were soon left waiting in front of their computer screens with bated breathe, as word of the One Direction twitter war spread quickly through social media.

But all seemed calm again, until Zayn went back to twitter in the early hours of Thursday morning, to tell his followers, ‘Don't know why I'm being attacked for defending myself , people got it twisted! I love my fans ?! Every single one of you x’

Diehard fans of the boyband had seemed to be backing Tomlinson in the argument, as the hashtag #TomlinsonSlaysAgain trended worldwide on Twitter. The 23 year old later thanked fans for their support telling them, ‘Our fans support really has been a different class ! Huge love to you guys!!’ But for now it seems we can all have a rest, as the great war of tweets might be over, as neither Louis, Zayn or Naughty Boy have addressed the issue in the past few hours.
