Disney star Zendaya has been presented with her own lifelike, one-of-a-kind Barbie doll based on her 2015 Oscars look. The 19 year old said she was honoured to receive the doll and be part of Barbie’s ‘diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty.’

The Zendaya doll sports her hair in dreadlocks, just like the singer and actress wore to the 2015 Oscars. Zendaya’s white Vivienne Westwood dress has also been recreated to complete the look.

The official Barbie Instagram also shared a pic of Zendaya posing with her new mini-me writing, ‘We are so excited to honor @Zendaya with this one-of-a-kind doll as she encourages girls to Raise Their Voices and inspires us to #BeSuper.’

But rapper Nicki Minaj upset some Zendaya fans when she congratulated the Disney star on her doll, while taking the opportunity to mention she had one first. ‘Congrats on your doll, Zendaya! Did u know Barbie made me one a cpl years back? It was such an honor & a HUGE surprise,’ Minaj wrote on Instagram alongside a pic of her Barbie.

Zendaya’s dreadlocks to the 2015 Oscars ended up becoming headline news in February, after 'Fashion Police' host Giulana Rancic said that the 19 year old looked ‘like she smells like patchouli oil and weed.’ Rancic later apologised for the remarks.

Speaking to Galore magazine about her decision to speak out after Rancic’s comments Zendaya said, “My parents always taught me that there is knowledge in your voice. I could have clapped back and gone off. Of course I wanted to, everyone wants to do that."

"I just kept thinking there were other young people dealing with the same kind of issue who were watching me to see how I would respond. I just had too much respect for myself and didn’t want to prove everybody right that’s waiting for me to be ignorant and do something dumb, so I took my time until I thought of the best way I could address the comments.”
