Zoe Saldana felt she was ''missing something important'' before having children.

The 'Infinitely Polar Bear' star, who has six-month-old twin boys Cy and Bowie with husband Marco Perego, admits she was ''super fit'' before getting pregnant, but is much happier with her life and body now.

The 36-year-old actress explained: ''I've gone through a lot with it [my body] and I'm just embracing the place where I'm at. And I can't just embrace the good things about it. You know, it's not great.

''But when I was super fit I was missing something important in my life. Which is my partner and motherhood. And now that I have it, I don't want to take it back so I'm willing to accept everything as it is.''

The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star thinks there is too much pressure on women to look perfect all of the time and believes it's more important to promote a healthy lifestyle.

She told E! News: ''I also think society is very hard on women, but also, we're very hard on ourselves. It's a choice....you make a choice to accept what the person is telling you are, is what in reality you are. Or you can basically say 'This is not who I am. I would rather believe what I see through my own eyes.'

''So I think that in order for us to start sending a more positive message to young girls, I think we have to start embracing the true body form of a woman. Which is full of curves and volume and stuff and I think it's beautiful.''
