Biography

Anne Hathaway (born 12.11.1982) Anne Hathaway is an American actress, famous for her roles in The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada.

Childhood: Anne Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents are Gerald Hathaway and Kate McCauley. Her father was a lawyer and her mother was an actress (Anne was inspired to follow in her mother's footsteps). When Anne was six years old, the family moved to Milburn, New Jersey.

Hathaway attended Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, Wyoming Elementary School and Millburn High School. Whilst at high school, she acted in a number of school plays. She won a nomination for the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award for 'Best Performance By A High School Actress' for her performance as Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress. Anne Hathaway also became the first teenager to be admitted to he Barrow Group Theater Company's acting programme. At the age of 16, she was cast in Get Real, for the Fox network.

Acting Career: Anne Hathaway's debut movie role came with her performance in the 2001 film The Other Side of Heaven. The film, which also starred Christopher Gorham, was filmed in New Zealand. Before filming commenced, Hathaway auditioned for a part in The Princess Diaries. She landed the lead role after just one audition and the film - which also starred Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo and Mandy Moore - was an international success.

The following year, Anne Hathaway was in a production of Carnival! in New York, as well as providing her voice for an English version of The Cat Returns, by Hiroyuki Morita.

Hathaway then continued to star in a number of family-oriented films, such as Nicholas Nickleby (with Jamie Bell and Charlie Hunnam) and Ella Enchanted, along with Steve Coogan, Minnie Driver and Hugh Dancy.

In 2004, Anne Hathaway began filming the sequel to The Princess Diaries, entitled The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. The scheduling of the film forced her to pull out of a prior commitment to star opposite Gerard Butler in The Phantom of the Opera.

In 2005's Hoodwinked!, Anne Hathaway voiced the character of Little Red Riding Hood. In a move that surprised many of her followers, Hathaway then chose to appear in Havoc. The film, which also stars Bijou Phillips and Freddy Rodriguez, was R-rated and featured Hathaway in a number of nude scenes and performing sex scenes.

This was followed by an appearance in the critically-lauded Brokeback Mountain, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams. Hathaway continued this success with a performance in The Devil Wears Prada. She stars in the film as a fashion magazine editor's assistant, with the editor's role being played by Meryl Streep. She and her co-star Emily Blunt followed the same strict diet for the film, in order to lose weight for the role.

Anne Hathaway was originally due to star in one of the lead roles of Knocked Up, by Judd Apatow. She was eventually replaced by Katherine Heigl, because she did not want to use real footage of a woman giving birth, to create the illusion that her character was giving birth. Instead, 2007 became the year that she starred in Becoming Jane: a film in which she portrayed the English author, Jane Austen. The film also starred James McAvoy, Maggie Smith and Julie Walters. Hathaway was originally considered for Tim Burton's production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The role eventually went to Jayne Wisener, as Burton wanted a younger, unknown actress for the part.

Anne Hatchway started 2008 with a performance in Get Smart, an updated adaptation of the Mel Brooks TV series of the 1960s. The film also starred Steve Carrell, Alan Arkin and Dwayne Johnson. 2008 also saw Hatchway appear in Passengers, with Patrick Wilson and Rachel Getting Married, with Debra Winger. The following year, she starred in Bride Wars, opposite Kate Hudson, as well as providing voice work for The Simpsons and Family Guy. That summer, she performed in a stage production of Twelfth Night at the Delacorte Theater in New York. Toward the end of 2009, footage was released of the Tim Burton-produced version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, starring Hathaway, alongside Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter

Personal Life: Anne Hathaway once dated the real estate developer Raffaello Follieri. Hatchway ended her relationship with him amid him being arrested for fraud charges. Since 2008, she has been dating the actor Adam Shulman.

Hathaway and Shulman married in a secret wedding ceremony in 2012.

Anne Hathaway Talks 'Post-Genre' Filmmaking

Anne Hathaway

In the new offbeat thriller Colossal, Anne Hathaway plays Gloria, an alcoholic who discovers that her mental breakdown is somehow connected to a giant monster that's terrorising South Korea. It's a very different kind of role for the actress, and she rose to the challenge.

"I felt that it was a movie that dealt with addiction in such an intimate way," she says, "in a way that we're not used to seeing it. It's a really honest and fantastically unshowy film, despite it being searing. And it's not afraid to be funny, because my experience with addiction is that mixed in with all that tragedy are some of the funniest stories you'll ever hear. One of the things I love about Colossal is that it allowed for Gloria to be contradictory."

Alice Through The Looking Glass - Teaser Trailer

Alice once again returns to Wonderland and meets a lot of familiar faces. This time her biggest enemy is Time, quite literally. As the Blue Caterpillar reminds her, 'You've been gone too long, Alice there are matters that might benefit from your attention. Friends cannot be neglected.' Instead of falling down a rabbit hole, this time Alice gains entry to wonderland through a large mirror which takes her to a topsy-turvy universe which could only be associated with Wonderland. There appear to be a few differences between the book and the new film; whilst Lewis Carol's original version of the book was based six months after the original tale, the inclusion of Time might mean that Linda Woolverton's version make time travel much quicker in Wonderland. Again, Carol used many chess analogies in the book, at the moment its unknown how much this will play a part in the movie. The majority of the lead cast from Tim Burton's 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland including Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. Alice Through The Looking Glass was directed by James Bobbin who previously worked on the 2011 Muppets film and Muppets Most Wanted.

The Intern Review

Good

This is one of those warm, unchallenging comedies that's entertaining to watch even though something about it feels vaguely inane. Basically, nothing about it is even remotely realistic; people never actually do or say these kinds of things. But we kind of wish they did. And as writer-director Nancy Meyers makes a series of pointed observations about the value of age and experience, we can't help but wistfully smile and nod along.

It's set in a picturesque mix of old and new Brooklyn, where pensioner Ben (Robert De Niro) has run out of ways to make his life interesting after his wife of more than 40 years died. He's done the travelling, spent time with his grandson on the opposite side of the country, and now he's applying to be a senior intern at a wildly successful fashion website. He's assigned to work with founder and CEO Jules (Anne Hathaway), an overachiever who prefers to do everything herself while her equally astute husband (Anders Holm) stays home with their adorable daughter (JoJo Kushner). Jules is so busy that she barely notices that both her company and her marriage are slipping out of her grasp, but Ben is sharp as a tack, and gently helps her reset her priorities. Meanwhile, he also finds romance himself with the company's hot masseuse (Rene Russo).

Virtually everything in this movie feels comfortable and easy, with conflicts that aren't actually that difficult to manage and side characters who never steal the spotlight from the stars. The only dark shadow in the film appears when Ben discovers that Jules' husband is having an affair, and her reaction nicely sidesteps the usual way movies approach the issue. Otherwise, the film plays along nicely, never ruffling feathers while constantly pointing out how wise old people are, really. Thankfully, De Niro is so relaxed in the role that he avoids sentimentality, effortlessly mixing the comedy and drama. He sparks some engaging father-daughter-style chemistry with Hathaway, who nicely mixes Jules' tough drive with an underlying yearning to get her life back in balance.

The Intern Gives Anne Hathaway A Welcome Break

Anne Hathaway Robert De Niro

Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway has moved effortlessly between genres throughout her career, from comedy to drama to musical. But most of her roles have been pretty intense, and she saw The Intern as a fresh change. "I don't always relate to my characters, but Jules I really did," she says. "It's hard to be a person making mistakes in the spotlight, and I related to her on that level. Until now I've made a lot of my movies from a place of insecurity and self-doubt. I got tired of that, so I decided to make one from a more positive place and to feel good about what I was doing and embrace the unknowns. It turns out you can make a movie without non-stop sleepless nights!"

She was also challenged by the idea of working with Robert De Niro. "I was so scared, - it's Bob Freaking De Niro!" Hathaway laughs. "I mean, he's a legend! If anything I was lucky to have done The Devil Wears Prada with Meryl Streep, because in many ways I missed that experience because I never got over the 'God you're Meryl Streep'-ness."
