Following a huge response to a snippet of the track she shared on TikTok, Dove Cameron has swiftly released her latest song - 'Boyfriend'. The unintended single has now become the lead track to feature from her forthcoming EP after it quickly racked up 5 million likes on the video sharing platform.
Taking to Twitter to express her surprise and thanks the 'Liv and Maddie' actress tweeted, "i can’t believe we just finished and dropped this song in 10 days time because you guys liked 9 seconds of it…with no promo because we were so unprepared. i’m so grateful to you guys for literally making all of this happen thank you so much i’m genuinely shocked and confused".
Talking about 'Boyfriend' in a press release, former Disney star Dove Cameron said - "In writing 'Boyfriend', I feel like I finally found my sound, my perspective and myself in a way I wasn’t sure I ever would. I am so immensely happy to have this song and this part of me out in the world. I hope you feel access to yourself when you listen to it too". Two days later, on St. Valentine's Day, Dove tweeted again that she - "was just told that boyfriend has been added to today’s top hits & we are about to hit 9m streams this morning after less than 4 days…only in my wildest did i think a song i wrote could have a life like this in the outside world. gonna have to cry about it :’) happy valentines". (After only a week, 'Boyfriend' has over 14 million streams on Spotify alone)
Dove Cameron's latest track follows on from 'Taste Of You', her collaboration with Canadian DJ and record producer Rezz, which the pair released in May last year, and precedes her hotly anticipated EP release. Speaking about her new music Dove said, "I can’t explain to you guys how meaningful this new era of music is for me. I finally feel like I’m creating as *~myself~*, not as the person I perceive people want me to be. It’s so much more personal and empowered & it feels like I’m doing it for the first time. Totally new".
As yet there is no confirmed release date for Cameron's debut EP.
