Biography

George Clooney (born 6.5.1961) George Clooney is an American actor, as well as a director and producer. He is also involved in the United Nations (UN) organisation.

Childhood: George Clooney was born in Kentucky, to Nina and Nick Clooney. His father was a journalist, a news anchorman and a games show host, whilst his aunt, Rosemary Clooney, was a singer. His uncle, José Ferrer was also an actor.

Clooney developed his interest in theatre at Sir Thomas Rich's Grammar School, in Gloucester, England. When his family moved back to Kentucky, George attended Augusta High School and earned the lead role in a number of plays.

Acting Breakthrough: In 1984, Clooney was given a role in a medical comedy drama named E/R. A decade later, he would more famously star in the similarly named, high profile drama ER. His first major break, however, was playing Roseanne Barr's boss in the sitcom Roseanne.

His role on Roseanne was followed by parts in Baby Talk and Sisters.

Clooney's major film debut was a small role in Return of the Killer Tomatoes.

The major TV breakthrough came in 1994, when Clooney landed the role of Dr. Doug Ross in ER. He stayed on the show between 1994 and 1999.

Mainstream Success: Whilst he was appearing in ER, Clooney also landed a number of major roles in Hollywood films, the first being a part in From Dusk Till Dawn, by maverick director Robert Rodriguez. This was followed by roles in The Peacemaker and One Fine Day. During the last few weeks of his ER contract, Clooney starred in Three Kings.

George Clooney has a long-standing and fruitful relationship with the Coen Brothers directorial team. His first film for them was O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Another lucrative relationship is that between Clooney and Steven Soderbergh, the director of the Ocean's trilogy. Clooney starred alongside Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in Ocean's Eleven and went on to star in Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen.

Clooney's directorial debut came in 2002, with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. The film was unsuccessful at the box office, though Clooney's directorial skills were appreciated by film critics.

Returning to acting, Clooney starred in the lead role in Syriana (2005), a film about a former CIA agent. Shortly after filming Syriana, Clooney directed and acted in Good Night and Good Luck. Both films were considered a financial and critical success. The latter film earned Clooney two Oscar nominations, for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Syriana earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

In 2008, Clooney was once again nominated for an Oscar - this time for his role in Michael Clayton. He lost the prize to Daniel Day Lewis (for his role in There Will Be Blood).

Later that year, Clooney returned to working with the Coen brothers and once again shared screen-time with Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading.

Personal Life: George Clooney was once married to Talia Balsam, between 1989 and 1993. He also had a brief relationship with the actress Sarah Larson.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman each bet Clooney $10,000 each that he would have fathered a child before he turned 40. On his 40th birthday, Pfeiffer and Kidman both sent him a cheque. Clooney returned the cheques, betting double or nothing that he would still be childless when he turned 50.

Until 2006, George Clooney owned a pot-bellied pig named Max, which he had had for 16 years.

From Amy Schumer To Danny Glover: 7 Celebrities Who Have Been Arrested For Protesting

Amy Schumer George Clooney

Arguably the most honourable reason you can be arrested in this day and age is forceful activism; that is, peaceful protest that involves trespassing and generally being an inconvenience to the people you're campaigning against. You'd be amazed at how many celebrities have a criminal record for this sort of thing.

George Clooney Named Highest Earning Actor Of 2018 By Forbes

George Clooney Dwayne Johnson Robert Downey Jr

George Clooney has been named the highest-earning actor of the last year by Forbes in its annual list for 2018, making $239 million – but his massive income is mostly not down to acting.

Clooney’s pre-tax earnings, between June 2017 and June 2018, are the most that any actor has ever made in any 12-month period in history, according to Forbes.

However, 57 year old Clooney has had a comparatively quiet year in box office terms. Instead, his windfall earnings came from the sale of Casamigos, the tequila brand he founded with friends Rande Gerber and Mike Meldma in 2013, to global liquor company Diageo for $1 billion a year ago.

George And Amal Clooney Donate $100k To Migrant Children Center

George Clooney

George Clooney and his wife Amal have reacted to the ongoing situation at American’s border with Mexico, announcing that they’ve donated $100,000 to help migrant children separated from their parents.

The celebrity couple, who welcomed twins Ella and Alexander last year, have been discussing how they could help after distressing scenes from the border, in which crying children have been separated from their parents and housed in temporary cages inside detention centres at the border while the adults are prosecuted for illegally entering the country.

“At some point in the future our children will ask us: ‘Is it true, did our country really take babies from their parents and put them in detention centres?’ And when we answer yes, they’ll ask us what we did about it. What we said. Where we stood,” George and Amal told People magazine.

'Batman & Robin' Changed George Clooney's Career - For The Positive - Forever

George Clooney

George Clooney is without a doubt one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but it's not always been that way. In fact, there was a time in his career when the actor would jump from project to project, simply happy to be working ahead of his breakout role in television's 'ER'. When that happened however, the floodgates of opportunity burst open for Clooney, but there was still a struggle to be had.

George Clooney says 'Batman & Robin' changed his careerGeorge Clooney says 'Batman & Robin' changed his career

One of his earliest leading roles came in 'Batman & Robin', where he took over the leading role of the World's Greatest Detective from Val Kilmer, who had seen huge success in 'Batman Forever'. Unfortunately for Clooney, tackling Bruce Wayne proved to be a trickier task than he had imagined, due to a script renowned as being terrible, and a number of behind-the-scenes challenges.

George Clooney Once Gave His Friends $1 Million. Each.

George Clooney

Being friends with George Clooney sounds like it has perks that go beyond simply being mates with a superstar, as one of his pals revealed that the actor gave each of his friends a million dollars to say thank you for helping him throughout his career!

Rande Gerber, the businessman and whose wife is Cindy Crawford, made the sensational claim to MSNBC on Wednesday (December 13th), saying that he and 13 other people were surprised when they accepted an invitation to his house for dinner back in 2013 only to find suitcases filled with $1 million each in $20 notes on their seats around the table.

Clooney explained that he was making the incredibly generous gesture in order to “give back” to his friends, telling them “how much you’ve meant to me and how much you mean to me in my life.”

Suburbicon Review

Excellent

This film feels kind of like what you'd expect from a collision between George Clooney and the Coen brothers: a comical noir thriller with a hefty dose of social commentary. Essentially two films mashed together, it paints a clever portrait of America in the 1950s with repressed rage, racial unrest and deep-seated greed. But the film's most powerful angle is its story of a young boy's rather nightmarish coming of age.

It's set in 1959 middle America, where Suburbicon is the town of the future, an idyllic place to raise a family. Then the Meyers family moves in, the first black family, and the community blames them when the Lodges - dad Gardner (Matt Damon), mom Rose (Julianne Moore), son Nicky (Noah Jupe) and aunt Maggie (also Moore) - are violently attacked. But an insurance inspector (Oscar Isaac) suspects that Gardner knows more about his attackers (Glenn Fleshler and Alex Hassell) than he's letting on. And Nicky knows he does. So as the neighbourhood descends into chaos to protest the Meyers' presence, Nicky quietly befriends their son Andy (Tony Espinosa).

Clooney directs this in a colourful 1950s style, with jaunty music by Alexandre Desplat and vivid production design by James Bissell. This is a community that looks perfect on the surface, but more than a little rotten underneath. And the script lures the audience in with some clever twists and turns that shift perspectives and tones, playing with the way these people are interconnected. Much of this is observed through Nicky's eyes, and he sees everything even if he can't explain why something is happening. All of this builds to a properly intense final act that's laced with wicked humour to gleefully keep the audience off balance. So even as it turns increasingly violent, the suspense and irony keep us entertained.

Weinstein has been dismissed from the Weinstein Company, a company he co-foundered, and recently Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet and Dame Judi Dench have thrown their support behind the women making allegations of sexual harassment against him.
