Lizzo is the "happiest" she has been in 10 months, just two months after she vowed to "quit" the music industry for good.

The 35-year-old star thanked fans for their "patience", as she bravely opened up about being struck down with a bout of depression.

She posted a selfie and wrote on Instagram: "I’m the happiest I’ve been in 10 months. The strange thing about depression is you don’t know you’re in it until you’re out of it. (sic)"

But the 'Truth Hurts' hitmaker insisted the "dark cloud" that followed her on a daily basis is "finally clearing up", and Lizzo hinted she has new music in the works.

She added: "I’m definitely not all the way as carefree as I used to be.. But the dark cloud that followed me every day is finally clearing up. My smile reaches my eyes again and that’s a win. I thought my album was finished.. but I gotta get some of these good vibes off in a banger real quick. Thanks for your patience (sic)"

In March, Lizzo vowed to walk away from her music career, because she was "tired of getting dragged by everyone".

She wrote on Instagram: "I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.

"All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it.

"I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views... being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.

"My character being picked apart by people who don't know me and disrespecting my name.

"I didn't sign up for this (sic)"

Lizzo - who has nearly 12 million Instagram followers - ended her post by saying: "I quit [peace-sign emoji] (sic)"

However, just days later, the 'About Damn Time' hitmaker - whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson - retracted her statement and insisted she wanted to stop giving anything "negative" her attention.

Speaking in a video, she said: "When I say ‘I quit,’ I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit, is the joy of my life, which is making music…which is connecting to people. Cause I know I’m not alone. In no way, shape, or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive.

"If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could have hoped for. With that being said, I’m going to keep moving forward…keep being me."
