After 35 Years, INXS Break Up While On Stage In Australia

Inxs Michael Hutchence

Inxs is to split after 35 years together. Though an official statement is yet to be received, it is expected the group will go their separate ways after making an announcement (of sorts) while on-stage at the Perth Arena in Australia.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, drummer Jon Farriss took over the microphone around two-thirds of the way through the performance to say it was the “last time” they would perform together, thanking the audience and saying, “I’m getting teary.” The group formed in Sydney 35 years ago and recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of Kick, their most successful album to date. INXS enjoyed monumental success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, though tragedy struck in 1997 when the band lost their charismatic frontman Michael Hutchence. The surviving members carried on, though failed to reach the same heady heights. Armed with tracks Need You Tonight, Devil Inside, New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart and Mystify, Kick sold over 10 million copies worldwide, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at No.2 in Britain.

According to the band’s manager Chris Murphy is readying a statement to clarify INXS’ current situation which should be unveiled later on Tuesday.
