Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf, born Michael Lee Aday, in Dallas, Texas, sadly passed away on the 20th January at the age of 74. His family were said to be by his side for the last 24 hours of his incredible life. In a post on the star's Facebook page it was announced that Meat Loaf had passed with his wife Deborah by his side.

By anyone's standards Meat Loaf had an incredible career that spanned more than six decades. After making his mark as Eddie in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Meat Loaf was barely out of the limelight. His on screen presence rivals that of his musical impact although for most Meat Loaf will always be remembered for his seminal, best selling album, Bat Out Of Hell.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Clips

Brad and Janet are a young, innocent couple who find themselves stranded in a storm in the middle of nowhere. They come across an eerie castle where they decide to go and ask for a phone, but are instead greeted by some unusual looking staff, a large party of eccentrically dressed guests and a formidable host wearing women's lingerie named Dr. Frank N. Furter. He's not just any transvestite, however, Frank is a pioneering scientist who has created a human life named Rocky, but he's also the most dangerous and insane man they could've come across - prone to jealous rages and unwilling to treat anyone like anything other than his playthings. When the couple are forced to spend the night, it's all they can do to resist the seductive charms of their host, and avoid running into his sadistic servants.

Stage Fright Review

Excellent

By mashing up so many genres, filmmaker Jerome Sable has made a thoroughly entertaining romp that's impossible to categorise. It may not work fully as a horror thriller, comedy, musical, coming-of-age drama or spoof, but it's hugely entertaining on all of those levels. Yes, this is a movie that scares us one minute, then has us laughing at some surprisingly sophisticated humour the next.

It's been 10 years since Kylie (Minnie Driver) was killed on the night her star-making show opened on Broadway. Now her children Camilla and Buddy (Allie MacDonald and Douglas Smith) are working at Center Stage performing arts camp, run by their guardian Roger (Meat Loaf). And this summer's big show will be a revival of their mother's fateful musical, The Haunting of the Opera, staged as Japanese kabuki by self-proclaimed genius director Artie (Brandon Uranovitz). Camilla is determined to get the lead role, sucking up to a cute crew member (Kent Nolan) who has a crush on her and then engaging in a battle with Liz (Melanie Leishman), her rival for the part. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure is creeping around the camp, and pretty much everyone has a motive for murder.

The film is skilfully shot and edited, with straight-faced performances heightening the subtle comedy that flows through every scene. Some moments are pure pastiche, while the songs merrily blur the lines between the movie we're watching and the stage musical these theatre brats are putting on. And the cast is terrific. MacDonald and Smith engagingly anchor the central plot, while Meat Loaf has a ball as the all-singing ex-producer who wants to get back to Broadway. The rest of the ensemble is like the cast of Glee, representing a variety of types who are willing to break into another bouncy song at the sound of a single note. The killer, by contrast, prefers death metal.

Meat Loaf Forced To Postpone Nottingham Gig

Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf has already insisted that this current European Tour will be his last, owing to age and health issues, but it was his band’s condition that was holding him back at the weekend after the veteran singer was forced to take to Facebook and announce that they were having to postpone Sunday night’s Nottingham show (April 14, 2013).

"NOTTINGHAM: We are very sorry to announce that tonight's performance has had to be postponed due to medical reasons afflicting several members of the band. (sic)” Meat wrote. He added: "WE WILL BE BACK THOUGH AND WILL BE BACK MONDAY MAY 20th 2013 (sic). Please retain your original tickets, If for any reason you cannot attend, please contact the point of sale from tomorrow morning Monday 15 April (sic). Meat and everyone in the band and crew send love and apologies and thanks you for understanding. MLH xxx (sic)."

Earlier this month, Meat Loaf told Reuters "This is really it ... I just don't want to travel anymore," going on to compare himself to fellow rock veteran Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones – just about to headline Glastonbury Festival on the 50th anniversary of their formation – and saying "I outweigh (Mick) Jagger by about 100 pounds (45 kgs) and that counts for something. He hasn't seen the wear and tear … "Over the years, a lot of stones and a lot of arrows have been flying my way. You expect that."

Meat Loaf Hits The UK For Retirement Tour 'Last At Bat'

Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf commenced his final tour of the UK on Friday (April 5th 2013) during his Last At Bat tour after announcing his retirement.

The 'Bat Out of Hell' star, whose real name is Michael Lee Aday (formerly Marvin), has been suffering health problems for a number of years which may have been a key factor in his retirement plans. After all, 2012 saw him undergo the first of two knee operations which not only affected his gait, but also restricted his general on-stage movement. His vocal cords after also seen some strain over the years with the star having to cancel a tour in 2007 to recover from a cyst that developed on them. He told the Guardian, 'I've had 18 concussions. My balance is off. I've had a knee replacement. I've got to have the other one replaced. It's just the travel. It takes it out of you. I want to concentrate more on acting. That's where I started and that's where I'll finish. This time, they're not going to rope me back in.'

The tour concerts are split into two halves with the first half being dedicated to his biggest hits such as 'I'd Do Anything For Love' and the second half being dedicated to his 'Bat Out of Hell' record. 'It's the greatest love song ever written', he told the crowd during a Glasgow show according to the Telegraph.
