Biography

My Chemical Romance (formed 2001) Current members: Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar.

My Chemical Romance's debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was released on Eyeball Records in 2002. Shortly afterwards, they were signed to Reprise Records, who released their major label debut, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge in 2004. The album sold over one million copies and propelled them to commercial success.

The Early Years: About a week after the 11th September terrorist attacks in New York (2001), Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier decided to form a band. 'Skylines and Turnstiles' was an expression of Gerard's feelings about September 11th. Ray Toro was asked to join the band because Gerard struggled singing and playing guitar at the same time.

Matt Pelissier's attic was the venue in which the band held their first recording session, referred to as 'The Attic Demos.' Gerard's younger brother, Mikey, loved the songs so much, he dropped out of college and joined the band.

My Chemical Romance met the band Pencey Prep whilst signed to Eyeball Records. When Pencey Prep broke up, their lead vocalist / guitarist, Frank Iero, joined My Chemical Romance, just days before MCR's album was recorded.

The commercial breakthrough: My Chemical Romance signed with Reprise in 2003. After a major tour with Avenged Sevenfold, the band started to work on their second album. The album went platinum in less than a year.

During this period, My Chemical Romance replaced Pelissier with Bob Bryar. There were issues with Pelissier's ability to keep time with the rest of the band and rumour has it that Ray Toro insulted him by asking him to play with a metronome. Some fans wondered why Pelissier was dismissed and not Gerard Way, who was taking a large amount of drugs at this time. However, Gerard has now been clean and sober since August 2006.

In 2006, the band released a 2 DVD / 1 CD set titled Life On The Murder Scene. The package chronicled the band's history, as well as containing their music videos and some live performances. An unofficial DVD, Things That Make You Go MMM! Was also released the same year but contained no footage of the band, or any of the music. Instead, it contains interviews with people who knew the band before they found fame.

My Chemical Romance's third studio album was entitled The Black Parade, released in 2007. Whilst filming the promotional video for 'Famous Last Words,' Gerard Way and Bob Bryar incurred injuries, forcing the band to cancel tour dates.

The world tour for The Black Parade featured Muse, Thursday and Rise Against as support acts. The frontman from the band Reggie and The Full Effect, James Dewees, was announced as keyboardist / synth player for the tour and is now an official band member.

They replaced Jay Leno as one-off presenters of his The Tonight Show and played 'Famous Last Words' at the end of the show, with flames bursting behind them.

Along with Placebo, Mindless Self Indulgence, HIM, Saosin, and Taking Back Sunday, MCR were part of Linkin Park's major 'Projekt Revolution' tour.

Album Of The Week: The 19th Anniversary Of 'I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love' By My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance

Well before they enjoyed meteoric success with The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance started their musical journey with another concept album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. Back in 2002 MCR recorded their breakthrough debut album in just 12 days at the Nada Studios in New York. From the formation of the band in late 2001, through writing and rehearsing the songs, signing a record deal and recording an album the band had produced I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in double quick time.

MCR's eleven track album may not be as polished or well produced as some of their later albums but it was still an album that was good enough to get them recognised, put them on the map and see them realise Gold sales status in both the US and the UK. I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love is full of raw power, pent-up aggression and barely controlled energy. There are occasional moments of calm where the intensity is turned down but these are not the defining tracks of the album.

It was the pinnacle of our emo fantasies and, while we've moved on since then, truly worth celebrating.

Warped Tour Comments On My Chemical Romance Rumours

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance will not be reuniting for the final Warped Tour, according to festival reps.

The 'Welcome To The Black Parade' rockers split in 2013, and while they are said to be getting on well, it has been denied that they will be reforming for the touring festivals final run across the US.

A social media post on the official Warped Tour Twitter account responded to the rumours, and it read: "Let's just set the record straight - we are not reuniting @MCRofficial and we're not okay about it... we're not o-f***ing-kay. Our hearts are broken too...and it's valentine's day."

Gerard Way Finds Comics Harder Than Movies

Gerard Way My Chemical Romance

Gerard Way finds writing comics ''way harder'' than making music.

The My Chemical Romance frontman has been working on DC Entertainment imprint Young Animal over the last year, and though he enjoys the work, he admits he stumbles with finding his ''flow'' a lot more than when he's penning new tracks.

He said: ''I find that writing is way harder, writing prose or comics or whatever. Way harder than writing music. Although writing music can be way more brutal. I

Tom Bryant - The True Lives of My Chemical Romance Book Review

It seems to be a necessary yet tiresome evil that band biography writers never miss a chance to emphasise how many times they were granted unique and "unparalleled access" to the rock stars' inner circle. This may not be a trap that music journalist Tom Bryant manages to swerve, but it's easy to appreciate how it might be a laudable achievement to truly get under the skin of My Chemical Romance.

Tom Bryant - The True Lives of My Chemical Romance Book Review

Adored by many, derided by others, the band that typified yet shunned the radio-friendly emo revival of the mid-noughties endured a tough but rapid rise to the top. When journalists forever seemed to want to ask more questions about whether their music encouraged teens to self-harm, the group were understandably wary of media insight.

Stripping away the tabloid scare-mongering and knitting together countless interviews and encounters spanning the rockers' twelve-year career, the author presents a commemorative and full-storied tapestry detailing the "MCR" journey from New Jersey nothingness to arena-filling, chart-topping, platinum-selling icons of the 21st century alternative scene before their split in 2012. With the help of countless archive photos, Bryant does a particularly fine job of narrating the behind-the-scenes story of the Ways - the two brothers central to the formation, longevity and success of the band.

My Chemical Romance, who disbanded in early 2013, scored two top ten albums and multiple top ten singles throughout their illustrious career. From their early days with 2004’s Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge all the way to 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, My Chemical Romance has made their mark as one of the most influential rock bands in recent memory, and their breakup wasn’t taken lightly. “We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure,” the band said when breaking the news.

Bottled Off: 10 Bands Who Suffered Worse Fate Than Macaulay Culkin's Pizza Underground

Macaulay Culkin Leeds & Reading Festival 50 Cent Steel Pulse Green Day My Chemical Romance Panic At The Disco Foo Fighters Sex Pistols Lethal Bizzle Cher Lloyd

Macaulay Culkin and his pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band, the imaginatively named The Pizza Underground, suffered the chagrin of a disgruntled crown in Nottingham during the city’s annual Dot To Dot festival. Culkin, who was by this point half-way through a European tour, beat a hasty retreat from the stage after being drenched with beer.

Macaulay isn't the first star to feel the audience's ire.

It proved, that in this age of disconnect, where audience members can turn to the comforts of smart phones during lacklustre gigs, music fans are still eager to openly voice their displeasure. Only a few days later, Culkin announced the cancellation of the remaining tour dates. He has not openly cited the event as the primary motivation for such a cancellation, but it seems all too obvious that the hostile reception he received had severely impacted the decision. Macaulay is far from being the first to suffer the wrath of an embittered crowd and few are safe from the ramifications of a poor or ill-judged performance. Here are ten examples of performers receiving a severe dressing down from irate audiences:
