Steve Carell (born 16.8.1962) is an American comedian and actor. He is counted among Hollywood's 'Frat Pack': a group of comic actors including Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson.

Childhood: Steve Carell was born to Harriet and Edwin Carrell, in Concord, Massachusetts. His father was born with the surname Caroselli but shortened it to Carrell. Carrell studied at The Fenn School, then Middlesex School and Denison University in Ohio.

His original intention had been to become a radio presenter and whilst he was at Granville, he became a DJ at WDUB. One of Steve Carell's early performances was in a musical comedy entitled Knat Scatt Private Eye. He also appeared in a TV advert for Brown's Chicken in 1989. Two years later, he worked as part of The Second City, a performing troupe in Chicago.

Career: Carrell's first film role came in 1991, when he landed a small role in Curly Sue. 1996 saw Carrell performing in the short-lived 'The Dana Carvey Show', along with Stephen Colbert. The pair also provided the voices of 'The Ambiguously Gay Duo', an animated short produced by Robert Smigel.

Throughout the late 1990s, Carrell made a number of minor appearances in TV shows, such as 'Over The Top', 'Just Shoot Me' and 'Come to Papa'. He also featured in 'Watching Ellie', which ran from 2002-3 and starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In 2005, Steve Carell landed a role in Woody Allen's 'Melinda and Melinda'. The film also featured Will Ferrell, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloë Sevigny and Amanda Peet. Carrell lost out to Will Ferrell when he auditioned for Saturday Night Live.

Later that year, Steve Carell got his big break when NBC signed him to star in the lead role of David Brent in a remake of 'The Office', a British sitcom written by Ricky Gervais. The original show starred Gervais, as well as Steven Merchant, Mackenzie Crook and Lucy Davis. The US version also starred Raine Wilson and Jenna Fischer. Carrell won a Golden Globe for his performance in the show. Prior to appearing in 'The Office', Carrell had been paving the way for mainstream success when he played Evan Baxter opposite Jim Carrey in 'Bruce Almighty' (He also starred in the sequel, 'Evan Almighty').

This was followed by a critically lauded performance in 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'. Written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and produced by Judd Apatow, the film also featured Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Christina Applegate and was a huge critical and commercial success. His performance in 'The 40-Year Old Virgin' was also a hit with both critics and audiences alike. In the 2005 remake of 'Bewitched', starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, Steve Carell appeared as the character 'Uncle Arthur', followed by voicing the role of Hammy the Squirrel in the animated Over The Edge.

In 2008, Carrell provided another voice for 'Horton Hears A Who', which was based on a book by Dr. Seuss. Another hit for Carrell was the 2006 film 'Little Miss Sunshine', in which he played Uncle Frank, alongside Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette and Paul Dano. In 2007, Carrell starred in 'Get Smart', playing the lead role of Maxwell Smart.

The film was based on a Mel Brooks' 1960s spy parody of the same name. Steve Carrell starred in the animated family movie 'Despicable Me' before reprising his role in the 2013 sequel. In 2014, Carrell earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of real-life figure John Eleuthère du Pont in the film 'Foxcatcher'. The performance earned carrel a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture in Drama and for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Personal Life: Steve Carell and his wife, Nancy Walls, have two children together, Elisabeth Anne (b.2001) and John (b.2004).

Battle Of The Sexes Review

Excellent

A dramatisation of the real-life clash between tennis icons Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, this film is much more than a skilful re-enactment. It's a witty and insightful exploration of the kind of person who chases sporting success and global fame, even when the odds are stacked against them. And it's sharply well-played by Emma Stone and Steve Carell, who bring out the humour and pathos in their characters and the rivalry between them.

In the early 1970s, Billie Jean (Stone) has finally had enough of being treated as a second-class member of the tennis world, since women win just an eighth of what male players get. But the head of the tennis association (Bill Pullman) refuses to budge, so Billie Jean and her publicist (Sarah Silverman) start their own rival ladies' league. Meanwhile, former champion Bobby (Carell) is noisily shouting down this women's movement, claiming he could beat any female player. And while Billie Jean tries to ignore him, she knows that there's only one way to shut him up for good.

Screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) packs a lot into two hours, digging beneath the story to explore both of these players in their private lives. Billie Jean is questioning her marriage to Larry (Austin Stowell) as she falls for her hairdresser (Andrea Riseborough). And Bobby's gambling obsession is jeopardising his marriage to Priscilla (Elisabeth Shue). The entire cast is terrific at bringing these people to life with scene-stealing quirks that keep the audience smiling. And both Stone and Carell skilfully reveal the resonant internal journeys King and Riggs are taking even as the situation becomes a full-on media circus.

Last Flag Flying Trailer

After hearing about the tragic death of his Marine son during his service in the Iraq war, former Navy Corpsman Larry 'Doc' Shepherd (Steve Carell) hits up his old buddy Sal Nealon (Bryan Cranston) for support. They served during the Vietnam war together thirty years previously, so Sal doesn't think twice about abandoning his bar and driving him out to meet another of their former comrades: Reverend Richard Mueller (Laurence Fishburne). The latter is not exactly thrilled to see his old friends, especially when they represent not the most holiest areas of his past, but after hearing Doc's story he's willing to accompany them to Arlington, Texas to say a last farewell to Doc's son.

Of course, it's not quite as simple as that. Upon their arrival, Doc can't help feeling resentful about how his son was taken from him, and decides that he wants to take his body back home with him. The military are at odds with Doc's decision, deeming it more respectful to allow him to be laid to rest at Arlington, but if the only thing that Doc can give his child now is a proper memorial with his loved ones in the town he was raised, he'll be damned if anyone tries to stop him.

At first glance, this seems like a story of grief, of heroism and of the importance of family, but really this is a tale of true friendship; of a brotherhood that has the power to span decades if properly nurtured.

Despicable Me 3 Review

Very Good

Actually the fourth film in the series (don't forget the prequel Minions), this animated super-villain comedy continues the wildly hyperactive antics of Gru and his yellow sidekicks, blending hilarious references with crazed action to keep the audience laughing. It's so jam-packed with gags that the movie leaves the audience feeling a little bewildered along the way, since we never get a chance to lock into either the story or characters before we're off for another manic set-piece. But it's a lot of fun.

We catch up with Gru (Steve Carell) and his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) as they've just been outfoxed by arch-nemesis Bratt (Trey Parker), a former 1980s child TV star gone very, very bad. Sacked by the Anti-Villain League, Gru and Lucy are unsure how they're going to support their three adopted daughters (Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier and Nev Scharrel). Then they discover that Gru has a twin brother he never knew about. So they head to a remote island nation, where they meet Dru (also Carell), who lives in splendour on his epic pig farm. But Dru dreams of being a villain like their late father, so he convinces Gru to offer him some training. And, pretending that it's a heist, Gru takes Dru along on a mission to capture Bratt.

Every scene is a riot of jokes, mainly poking fun at 1980s movies, music, TV shows and fashion. Bratt is hilariously annoying, with his awful moustache and mullet, and a lair that recreates the set from Olivia Newton John's Physical video. But these witty touches fly at the screen so quickly that they only just register before there are another five gags upon us. The frantic pacing is enjoyable even if it's rather exhausting, mainly because the characters are so endearing. Carell and Wiig once again bring their impeccable timing to their roles, mixing comedy with some surprisingly sweet emotion in their parallel storylines: Gru as he learns to be a brother and Lucy as she yearns to be seen as a mom to the girls, two of whom have little subplots of their own.

Despicable Me 3 Trailer

Gru, the Minions and his wonderful girls will return to the cinema this June when the third instalment of the movie is released. Though his personal life is at a peak, Gru's professional life is going through some issues. When he lets the devious troublemaker Balthazar Bratt get away with the theft of a precious jewel, Gru comes under fire from his bosses and ends up getting fired. Now at a low point, Gru turn to his wife, Lucy, and the girls for support but they're unable to solve Gru's problems.

When the former bady finds out that he has a twin brother, the pair are reunited and it appears his brother Dru has everything Gru hasn't. He has wealth, luscious blonde locks, pigs, a huge island home and a devious villain layer underneath his mansion which Dru uses to lure Gru back into a life of crime - unbeknownst to Lucy and the girls.

As Gru starts to remember his bad boy youth, the temptation to become the best supervillain once again becomes too much for Gru to refuse. Will Gru be able to once again prove to his brother that he's capable of topping the ranks in the supervillain world and outwitting his latest nemesis, former child star Balthazar Bratt - and if he does, will he risk losing his real family who've stuck by him in the past?

It's been some time since Gru embarked on a villainous plot to take over the world; now that his adopted daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes are growing up and he's married to Anti-Villain League agent Lucy Wilde, he's more about being a family man than being a baddie. Of course, that also means that not a lot of money is coming in and so he needs to find financial help soon. Agnes does her best to raise funds with a garage sale and waves goodbye to her beloved unicorn, but ultimately it's the arrival of Gru's wealthier and blonder long-lost brother Dru who provides a light at the end of the tunnel. With his money, they manage to formulate a plan together to take down a criminal diamond thief named Balthazar Bratt - who happens to not be hard to find given that he's a flamboyant former 80s movie star. Meanwhile, the Minions are growing angry that their master no longer wants to pursue evil deeds.

There's Just Not Enough Minion Action In The 'Despicable Me 3' Trailer

Gru returns, but we're more bothered about the minions.

'Despicable Me 3' is finally here, and while we see that Gru's family is finally complete, we don't get to see half as much of the minions in the first trailer as we have seen before. Let's hope that that sentiment doesn't translate to the full movie.

Despicable Me 3 Trailer

Gru (Steve Carell) has renounced his nefarious ways for good now that he's happily married to Anti-Villain League agent Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig), but he's still very active when it comes to taking down the other criminals of the age. One such criminal is the disco-dancing, shoulder-pad loving Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker); a diamond thief who is also a former child star still obsessed with his famous film role from the 80s. But that's not the only adversary Gru must face on his next adventure. His long lost twin Dru returns and tensions are high between these siblings. The Minions are back, obviously - not that Gru needs minions when evil misdeeds aren't the order of the day - and Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Nev Scharrel) are a little older and wiser but just as adorable.
