An awesome cover of 'Golden Slumbers' from the Manchester rock band.
It is officially Christmas! The eagerly anticipated John Lewis advert has finally arrived with Elbow on the soundtrack and it is unbelievably adorable. Like last year's ad, this commercial isn't a tear-jerker, but it will have all kids wishing there was a monster under their bed as cute as Moz.
Elbow performing live in Bournemouth
Yes, it may still be November but there's a lot to prepare for Yuletide celebrations, the most important thing being buying presents. Soundtracking the 2017 John Lewis advert is Guy Garvey's band Elbow with the 1969 Beatles number 'Golden Slumbers' - a cover that will feature on their upcoming 'Best Of' album released on November 24th 2017. The compilation follows the release of their seventh release 'Little Fictions' which came out in February.
'This project was such a pleasure', the NME quote Guy Garvey as saying. 'Michel Gondry and the song did all the work for us. We are really proud to be involved.'
Directed by the Academy Award-winning Gondry ('Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'), the ad features a little boy named Joe who is constantly kept awake by an enormous snoring monster named Moz under his bed whom he soon befriends and stays up all night with playing.
Unfortunately, that takes quite the toll on him during the day and he can't stop falling asleep - that is until he discovers a a badly wrapped gift under the tree. It's a nightlight to help him finally get some shut-eye.
Last year's ad featured the trampoline-loving pooch Buster the Boxer, with Vaults doing 'One Day I'll Fly Away' by Randy Crawford. Previous soundtracks have included Aurora's rendition of 'Half the World Away' by Oasis and Tom Odell's cover of John Lennon's 'Real Love'.
