Biography

Elijah Wood (born 28.1.1981) Elijah Wood is an American film actor. He began acting as a child and is perhaps best known for his role in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson.

Childhood: Elijah Wood was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the second of three children and his mother (Debra) and father (Warren) are delicatessen owners.

Elijah took piano lessons as a child and was cast in his school production of The Sound of Music. The next year, he was also cast as the Wizard of Oz in a play of the same name.

Acting Career: Elijah Wood started out in show business by modeling and appearing in television commercials. His family moved with him to Los Angeles to help him in his career and it was in L.A. that Elijah landed a role in a Paula Abdul video ('Forever Your Girl'). Following this appearance, film work soon turned up for Elijah. He appeared in 1989's Back to the Future II and 1990's Avalon. It was this role that brought Wood his first real taste of public attention and the film was nominated for four Oscars.

Also in 1990, Wood appeared in the Richard Gere film Internal Affairs and landed his first major starring role in Paradise, the 1991 film that also starred Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. From there, he went on to star in Forever Young with Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis and in Radio Flyer in 1992.

1993 saw Wood starring alongside Macaulay Culkin in The Good Son, as well as taking the lead role in the Adventures of Huck Finn. The following year, he starred opposite Kevin Costner in The War.

In 1995, Elijah Wood had a role in the music video for The Cranberries' 'Ridiculous Thoughts.' The next year, he starred in Flipper, followed by the significantly more successful Ice Storm, directed by Ang Lee, in 1997. That same year, he starred as The Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist. In 1998, Elijah Wood appeared in two successful blockbusters, Deep Impact and The Faculty, further establishing himself as one of Hollywood's essential star actors.

Elijah Wood was cast as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy. The first film in the series, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, was a highly anticipated release and also starred Cate Blanchett, Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom, Liv Tyler and Sir Ian McKellan. After finishing filming in New Zealand, Wood went on to film the crime drama Ash Wednesday. In 2002, he returned to the screen as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Then, in 2003, he completed the final installment in the trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Elijah Wood's first major role following the Lord of the Rings films was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, alongside Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. He then went on to play a serial killer in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's adaptation of Sin City. The film also stared Mickey Rourke.

In 2005, Wood also starred in two critically acclaimed, if not widely well-known films. The first was Everything is Illuminated and the second is Green Street Hooligans.

Elijah went on to provide the voice for Mumble, a penguin who can tap dance, in Happy Feet. The film received a Golden Globe nomination and won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

2008 saw Elijah Wood star in The Oxford Murders, an adaptation of a Guillermo Martinez novel.

Other Ventures: In 2005, Elijah Wood set up his own record label, named Simian Records. The following year, he signed The Apples in Stereo and released their album New Magnetic Wonder. The label also signed a band named Heloise and the Savoir Faire.

Elijah also appeared on an album released by his fellow Lord of the Rings star, Viggo Mortensen. Wood sang and played a number of instruments on the album, which is entitled pandemoniumfromamerica.

The Hotel That Inspired 'The Shining' To Become World's First Horror Museum

The Shining Jack Nicholson Elijah Wood Simon Pegg Stephen King

The owners of the iconic Stanley Hotel in Colorado – better known as The Overlook Hotel in the classic horror novel 'The Shining' – are planning to open the world’s first horror-themed museum inside the building, according to a new report.

Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 classic movie, starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duval, based on Stephen King's book, was inspired by the vast hotel. Though the interior of the hotel you see in the movie itself was constructed in Elstree Studios in Britain, and the exterior shots are of the Timberline Lodge in Oregon, the Stanley Hotel in Colorado was the inspiration that King used for his 1977 novel.

The Last Witch Hunter Review

Good

Vin Diesel makes a bid for yet another franchise with a supernatural action romp that's both deeply ridiculous and enjoyably entertaining. The premise is basically Underworld with witches, and Diesel uses his meathead charm to coast through his role as an immortal warrior. Thankfully, the crazed production design and some solid costars do most of the acting for him. And director Breck Eisner keeps the pace snappy enough to hold the audience's interest, even if we're laughing at it rather than with it.

The Last Witch Hunter

Diesel plays Kaulder, who in the 13th century killed a nefarious witch queen (Julie Engelbrecht) and was cursed with immortality. Now 800 years later, he's living the high life in Manhattan and leading the Axe and Cross to contain the world's witch population. His assistant is the 36th Dolan (Michael Caine), who has just named the 37th (Elijah Wood) when they're attacked by the mysterious Belial (Olaf Darri Olafsson). He's determined to resurrect the queen and return humanity to the dark ages. So Kaulder sets out to stop him, teaming up with helpful witch Chloe (Rose Leslie), who has some special abilities that aid them as things get increasingly crazed.

Now living in New York - miserable and lonely, while his deceased wife and child are worlds away in the afterlife - Kaulder discovers that it's not over yet. The Queen Witch has returned with a vengeance, but this time it's going to take more than a witch killer to take her out. In order to slay her, you've got to be like her, and so Kaulder must unite with a beautiful young sorceress with the ability to destroy her - even if it's against his better judgement.

That's what a bunch of unwitting teachers are about to discover on a seemingly normal working day. Clint Hadson is a substitute teacher who arrives at an elementary school already nervous of what lies ahead. But when some of the children start erupting in strange hives and violently lashing out at each other, it begins to become clear that a horrific virus has hit every pre-pubescent person in the building causing them to launch a vicious, flesh eating assault on their teachers. The grown-ups lock themselves away from the danger and meet one young boy who seems to have evaded the disease. It appears to be a food-borne epidemic resulting from lunchtime's chicken nuggets, and it looks like they're not the only school in the nation with problem pupils...

Grand Piano Review

Very Good

Spanish director Eugenio Mira combines slick filmmaking with a dark and nasty plot as this fast-paced thriller unfolds almost in real time. So even if the premise doesn't quite stand up to scrutiny, it's packed with characters and twists that keep the audience glued to the screen as the mystery charges inexorably forward. Suspense comes in some gruesome surprises along the way, as well as in the actors' urgent performances.

The film opens as Tom (Elijah Wood) heads to Chicago for his first piano performance in five years, organised by his movie-star wife Emma (Kerry Bishe). She's even flown in the custom piano owned by Tom's late mentor, whose fortune mysteriously vanished after he died (cue an ominous chord!). Despite enormous pressure from the press and his fans, Tom is quietly confident about his long-awaited return to the stage. An old friend (Don McManus) is conducting tonight, and his assistant (Alex Winter) has everything under control. Then just as he begins to play Tom sees words in red ink on his score: "Play one note wrong and you die!" Using an earpiece and a laser gunsight, an angry fan (John Cusack) leads Tom on a wild cat-and-mouse game right through the performance.

Yes, the idea is pretty preposterous, and not just because Tom can play outrageously complicated pieces note-perfect while a maniac shouts in his ear. Tom even manages to make phone calls and send text messages while playing, darting off-stage to crank up suspense along the way. The main threat is against his wife, whose demanding friend (Tamsin Egerton) and her browbeaten husband (Allen Leech) also get involved in the mayhem, which no one else in the theatre seems to notice until the over-the-top finale. But through all of this, Mira directs with a Hitchcockian grip on the suspense, deploying gallows humour, sweeping camerawork, dramatic music and complex long takes tighten the screws.

Crime Comedy Capers In The New Trailer For Paul Walker's 'Hustlers' [Trailer + Pictures]

Paul Walker Norman Reedus Wayne Kramer Elijah Wood

‘Hustlers’, known in the USA as ‘Pawn Shop Chronicles’, has a brand new trailer featuring the late Paul Walker. The film draws together three plotlines - including meth addicted white supremacists, a man looking for his kidnapped wife, and an Elvis impersonator - centred on one place: the pawn shop; the epicentre for the poor trying to catch a break, and the focus of many a ridiculous situation.

And ridiculous situations are ample in the short peek we get in this new trailer. Walker himself seems to have adopted a ‘trailer trash’ character, bemoaning his partner in crime for swapping their shotgun for money to buy fuel. Where did that shop take place? You guessed it. “Man, how the hell we gonna rob Stanley without a shotgun?” a dishevelled Walker asks. Matt Dillon, Elijah Wood, Brendan Fraser and Norman Reedus (of Walking Dead fame) also star.

Hustlers Trailer

The pawn shop is the last resort for most broke people; the place where the impoverished and the desperate sell off their most prized valuables in exchange for an obscenely disproportionate amount of money. In 'Hustlers', it's where three dramatic stories begin; first, a pair of newlyweds find themselves in the shop where, as fate would have it, the groom finds the ring of his first wife who has been missing for some time. While he decides to seek out her kidnapper, a pair of small time criminals are concocting a plan to rob their meth dealer - though their armed robbery plan is inhibited when one of them pawns his shotgun. Meanwhile, one serious-minded Elvis Presley impersonator wishes to pawn his alleged gold Elvis memorabilia as he moves into the town hoping to land a new job in a fairground.
