In one of the most hilariously bizarre news stories of the year – just sneaking in under the bar before 2018 ends! – actor Macaulay Culkin has vowed to change his middle name following an online poll. To ‘Macaulay Culkin’.

Yes, that’s right.

The former Home Alone star will henceforth be known as Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin, after he ran a poll to determine what his new middle name should be after he decided to drop his existing one, Carson. He has pledged to officially change his name via deed poll in the new year.

When 'Home Alone' was released all the way back in 1990, it became an instant classic and spawned a number of spin-offs, one of which even included original leading star Macaulay Culkin, in the role of Kevin McCallister. Now a classic Christmas film, 'Home Alone' is to this day beloved by millions, but Culkin may put the brakes on their appreciation for the story.

The film sees the young Kevin left at home when his huge family go off on holiday to another State. It just so happens that his family house is also one targeted by a pair of thieves, who want to get their hands on whatever they can, no matter the damage done. Working to not only keep himself busy whilst his family have gone, but save himself from the evil thieves, Kevin comes up with a variety of inventions to keep the intruders at bay.

Everyone's favourite Christmas classic has finally been given a half-decent sequel as Macaulay Culkin returns as the now-troubled Kevin McCallister from 'Home Alone' in the first episode of web series ':DRYVRS'. It's slightly gruesome, full of bad language but is nonetheless a hilarious parody of this all-grown-up beloved character.

In this episode, lead character Jack Dishel from indie band The Moldy Peaches meets Kevin as he steps in for his wife as a driver for her car service - even though he can't drive. Jack offers to take the wheel, and their subsequent conversation soon gets awkward when Kevin ignores a call from his mother. 'You forward calls from your mom? That's ice cold, dude', says Jack, to the annoyance of Kevin.

In what may be our favourite Instagram post of all time, rock band Guns N’ Roses have shared an image of Nicolas Cage…wearing Nicolas Cage. The band posted the image, which features the iconic actor wearing a cowboy hat, blue blazer, copious beads around his neck, a pair of sunglasses and…finest of all, a t-shirt featuring an image from one of his famous fan-made memes.

Nicolas Cage may be one of Hollywood’s most famous actors, but over the past few years it’s the collection of memes and fan videos dedicated to him which he’s become best-known for. Cage’s habit of totally surrendering himself, body and soul, to a role has led to a few onscreen outbursts which fans go freaking nuts for.

Macaulay Culkin and his pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band, the imaginatively named The Pizza Underground, suffered the chagrin of a disgruntled crown in Nottingham during the city’s annual Dot To Dot festival. Culkin, who was by this point half-way through a European tour, beat a hasty retreat from the stage after being drenched with beer.

Macaulay isn't the first star to feel the audience's ire.

It proved, that in this age of disconnect, where audience members can turn to the comforts of smart phones during lacklustre gigs, music fans are still eager to openly voice their displeasure. Only a few days later, Culkin announced the cancellation of the remaining tour dates. He has not openly cited the event as the primary motivation for such a cancellation, but it seems all too obvious that the hostile reception he received had severely impacted the decision. Macaulay is far from being the first to suffer the wrath of an embittered crowd and few are safe from the ramifications of a poor or ill-judged performance.
