The Super Bowl is the only event in the world where you want to sit around for the adverts, and it seems this year will be no different. A teaser for the forthcoming Mountain Dew and Doritos commercial has been unveiled starring the likes of Morgan Freeman and Missy Elliott.

In the clip, we see actors Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage being put through their paces by Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes respectively, as they practise two popular tongue twisters ('Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers' and 'How much wood could a woodchuck chuck?') ahead of what appears to be their debuts as world-class MCs.

A new online petition is calling for the replacement of a Confederate monument in Virginia with one of rapper Missy Elliott.

Nathan Coflin, a native of Virginia, posted a petition via Change.org calling on local politicians in the town of Portsmouth to remove a 35-foot Confederate memorial placed in the late 1800s, honouring “the Confederate dead of Portsmouth and Norfolk County”.

Also, he’s asking that the local authorities replace it with a statue of Missy ‘Misdemeanour’ Elliott, the award-winning rapper and producer, as she was born in Portsmouth.

The 2016 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors returned to New York City after six years on Monday (July 11th 2016) and, as expected, it was jam-packed with hip-hop's biggest trailblazers. Plus, they were all women in a special edition dubbed 'All Hail the Queens'. This is the 8th ceremony since it made its debut in 2004.

Leading this year's honorees at Manhattan's Lincoln Center was Queen Latifah who performed 'U.N.I.T.Y.' and tried to focus all attention on the issues in the press recently regarding racism, police brutality and Black Lives Matter. 'We all know that the world and our world is really tense right now', she said. 'It's a lot of tension. It's a lot of angst. It's a lot of hurt. A lot of pain. I'm hoping that we can somehow manage to channel all of these emotions that we have in a positive way and really do something to change our world.'

Ciara was treated to one incredible surprise by her boyfriend, NFL player Russell Wilson, when he threw a party to celebrate her 30th birthday. Wilson arranged for Ciara’s family and friends to dress up as their favourite superheroes and he had a few additional surprises in store for Ciara.

EDM duo Skrillex and Diplo,aka Jack Ü, have surprised fans by releasing their debut album during an attempted 24 hour long DJ set. Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü hit iTunes an hour before its scheduled release on Thursday and features guest appearances by a host of artists, including one Justin Bieber.

The duo celebrated the album’s release by embarking on a marathon DJ set in Los Angles, which ended up being shut down by police at 6am after the party had already been going for 18 hours, according to Diplo’s twitter.

The Super Bowl is possibly the most anticipated and well-known sporting event of every year; a game of American Football, set to decide the National Football League champion team for that season. On 1st February 2014, the New England Patriots fought the Seattle Seahawks for the title, in a game that saw Quarterback Tom Brady win his fourth Super Bowl and third Super Bowl MVP award. In the end, the New England Patriots won the game with 28, against the Seattle Seahawks 24.

Idina Menzel received the honour of singing the American National Anthem during the opening ceremony, while Katy Perry received critical praise for her half-time show performance, featuring Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott. With the Super Bowl being such a loved sporting event, it should be no surprise that a whole host of celebrities made an appearance at the show to watch their favourite teams. Amongst those in attendance were Snoop Dog, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris and many more.

Missy Elliott will be joining Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz on stage during the Super Bowl half-time show, according to a source speaking to the Associated Press. 43-year-old Elliott will be a "surprise guest" at the big game's entertainment on Sunday (1st February). The source, someone "familiar with the plans" for the entertainment, claimed Elliott will be performing alongside Perry during one of her songs. Elliott has previously worked with Perry on a remix of 'Last Friday Night T.G.I.F.' but it is uncertain which track she will feature on at the half time show.

So far the singer hasn’t given away much about what to expect from her half time show, but this is Katy Perry we’re talking about so we at least know we’re in for a big treat come Sunday.

Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic is moving full-speed ahead after the announcement of the lead actress. Despite lack of support from the family, the film will be made without any delays. According to The Hollywood Reporter, two more roles in the film have been cast – and they’re pretty big ones too.

The Lifetime biopic has found its Missy Elliott and Timbaland.

Lifetime has followed its established practice of hiring relative unknowns and chosen Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith for the roles of Aaliyah’s collaborators Missy Elliott and Timbaland. The rappers/producers were instrumental in helping Aaliyah’s career. They worked closely with the singer on her 1996 album One in a Million and she had practically become their protégé by the time her self-titled sophomore album was released in 2001. Aaliyah tragically and infamously died in a plane crash later that same year.
