'Willie Weed' will be sold by Nelson's new company 'Willie's Reserve', but only in the handful of American states that allow recreational use of the drug.
Country music legend Willie Nelson has announced more details of his plans to roll out his own brand of marijuana. ‘Willie’s Reserve’, a company formed by Nelson, will sell ‘Willie Weed’ which he intends to be “the best on the market”.
The move makes him one of the few stars to join in the increasing movement to commercialise marijuana, which is legal for medical and recreational use in a handful of American states. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine ahead of Monday’s announcement, the 81 year old singer fleshed out some of his plans.

“I will make sure it's good or it won't be on sale,” Nelson said. “There should be a menu just like in a restaurant because there's so many different kinds of pot that do many different things. It's a good idea to have everything labelled for what it does, what it don't do [and] how powerful it is.”

Nelson has been an advocate for the legalisation of marijuana for decades, and was arrested as recently as 2010 for creating an amusingly-named movement ‘The Teapot Party’. About that incident, he said: “They mostly want autographs now. They don't really bother me anymore for the weed, because you can bust me now and I'll pay my fine or go to jail, get out and burn one on the way home. They know they're not stopping me.”
‘Willie Weed’ is set to be grown and sold in the states of Colorado and Washington, two places where recreational use of the drug is legal. In addition to its aim of being a viable commercial enterprise, Nelson’s company will act as an awareness group emphasising environmental and social issues connected with hemp plant. He said it will “support the gradual end of marijuana prohibition across America.”
In the actual press statement released on Monday, a representative for Nelson said that ‘Willie Reserve’ is “an extension of [his] passion and appreciation for the many varieties and range of the plant's qualities.”
