Adele won two of the three categories she was nominated in at the BRIT Awards last night, but the star might've finished the evening feeling slightly disenchanted with her home land after she was cut-off midway through a speech enthusing about how proud she was to be British and her happiness at being home - a stark contrast to the almost royalty-like reverence she was given at America's Grammy Awards as she walked off with six awards just over a week ago.

BBC News reports that Adele was making a speech towards the show's end having won the BRITs biggest prize of the evening, The Album Of The Year Award. She said "Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year. I'm so proud to be British and to be flying our flag." However this triumphant moment soon turned sour as show host James Corden cut her off, with Blur - who took the Outstanding Contribution Award - still to perform before the televised event went off air.

It wasn't a decision that went down well with those in attendance or watching from home, forcing host network ITV to release a statement apologising. "The Brits is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over-running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption," a spokesman said, continuing "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her." Adele's other win came in the Best British Female Artist category.
