The Oscars planned tribute to James Bond has led to rumors that Adele may perform the theme song to Skyfall at the prestigious movie awards, thus making it the star’s the first live comeback since her pregnancy in 2012.

BBC News had previously confirmed that the Academy would be paying homage to the long running franchise as it reaches its 50th anniversary. That coupled with a nomination at the Producers Guild of America has added serious weight to suggestions that Skyfall – the latest 007 caper – could be in line to gain the series’ first ever nomination at the Oscars in the much-coveted Best Picture category.

AceShowbiz are among those suggesting that any tribute to Bond at the event on February 24, 2013 could well involve British singing phenomenon Adele, suggesting that the theme from Skyfall would most likely be used in the segment, paving the way for a glorious return to the limelight for the star. It’s not like the 23 year-old has failed to make the news whilst she’s been away giving birth however: The Guardian reports that Adele’s mega-selling second album 21 has once again been the highest selling LP in the USA, with Nielsen SoundScan figures showing that it had sold 4.41 million copies throughout 2012 – just a 25% decrease from its 2011 chart-topping year where it sold 5.82 million copies. The album hasn’t left the weekly top 40 since it debuted in March 2011.
