Finally, US audiences have been able to experience The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this weekend and from the looks of thing its been worth the wait. While Marc Webb’s sequel isn't perfect, it provides all the fun and excitement you’d expect from a big screen Spidey outing and movie-goers seem to agree.

Although early figures suggest that the Amazing Spider-man 2 probably wont be breaking any box office records this weekend it is expected to come out on top of the chart as Captain America: The Winter Soldier's dominance dies down.

So far, critics have given a somewhat mixed response to the superhero blockbuster which stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Whilst Webb’s directing and the film’s impressive special effects have garnered praise, some have cited an all too busy script as the movie's main failing.

Indeed audiences have an abundance of characters to keep track of during the near two and a half hour adventure, including Spidey himself, his girlfriend Gwen Stacey and villains Electro played by Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin. The main problem seems to be the dialogue, which just doesn't do justice to such an action packed story.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Joe Morgenstern didn't find much to love about the film asking, “How bad is this one ...? Amazingly so. Villainy abounds, but the villains are strident contrivances.” Indeed others agreed that the script was somewhat contrived, but felt Webb had simply tried to pack just too much into this one. As Alonso Duralde wrote in The Wrap, “This is a movie that needs to remove a piece of jewellery.”

Critically, it isn’t all bad for Peter Parker by any means. Chris Nashawaty from Entertainment Weekly was suitably impressed calling it “a Marvel spectacle that manages to deftly balance razzle-dazzle, feel-it-in-your-gut slingshot moments of flight and believable human relationships.” Garfield’s performance also gained particular praise with New York Daily News's Joe Neumaier calling him “possibly the best actor to ever star in any Marvel Comics-based flick.”
