LATEST: Ben Affleck has paid tribute to tragic singer-songwriter ELLIOTT SMITH, who committed suicide in his Los Angeles apartment last week (ends25OCT03).

Smith provided the music for Affleck and pal Matt Damon's OSCAR-winning movie Good Will Hunting.

In a statement the movie star said, "It's a terrible loss of a real talent."

Meanwhile, fans have started paying tribute to Smith by placing candles, poems and flowers outside Los Angeles' SOLUTIONS! speaker repair shop on Sunset Boulevard. The store featured on the cover of Smith's 2000 album FIGURE 8.
