That Oscar snub for Best Director might have turned into Ben Affleck’s lucky charm, after all, as his film Argo continues to plow through award season, raking in every best picture nomination and award there is.

Not to mention that since its release, Argo has grossed $116 million domestically and another $75 million from international audiences. Most recently, Affleck was honored at the Producer’s Guild of America Awards, receiving the Darryl F. Zanuck award along with George Clooney and Grant Heslov, at the ceremony last night (January 26) at Beverly Hilton. During his speech Affleck thanked his wife Jennifer Garner, fellow producers Clooney and Heslov, as well as Warner executives Jeff Robinov and Sue Kroll. He added: “I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I'm still working as an actor.”

The award comes just two week after a major win at the Golden Globes – for Best Dramatic Film and Best Director. The Oscar snub still hangs over Argo though, not least because only three films in history – and only one in the past 80 years – have won the Academy Award for Best Picture without being at least nominated for the top director award. Though with all of the publicity the snub has brought Affleck and his film, opinions in the academy might be slightly swayed.
