Turns out it wasn't his lucky night after all.
Ben Affleck might seem like the general “nice guy” type, but he has a few tricks up his sleeve. Affleck has reportedly been banned from the Hard Rock Las Vegas Casino (well, the blackjack table anyway), after he was caught counting cards. According to the New York Daily News, the Argo director was playing blackjack, when his lucky streak attracted the attention of a security guard.
Affkeck's unusually lucky night caught the attention of a casino security guard.
“You are too good,” the guard told the Oscar-winning star Monday night at the casino’s high-rollers’ blackjack table, according to a source for The News. Then, in a rather embarrassing turn for Affleck, he and his wife were shuttled back to their hotel by a car, ordered by the casino’s management. Affleck and actress wife Jennifer Garner were in Sin City for a romantic getaway before Affleck starts filming his “Batman” reboot in Los Angeles and Detroit.
Card counting isn’t illegal — but is frowned upon by every casino. The betting tactic involves adding card values to decide when — and when not — to place big wagers. The source reported that Affleck is still welcome to try his hand at other games in the same casino, but his blackjack ban is a lifetime thing. Apparently this isn’t the first time the actor/director has gotten unusually lucky at the Hard Rock. In 2001, he won $800,000 in one night playing blackjack. Apparently he wasn’t shy about it either. Witnesses report seeing the then 29-year-old actor drop around $150,000 in tips to dealers and servers at the casino.
