Ben Affleck, the self-aware, philanthropic style of celeb, has promised to live on $1.50 a day, as an estimated 1.4 billion people do on earth, to raise awareness and money in the fight against poverty.

“1.4 billion people live on less than $1.50/day. I’m joining Live #BelowTheLine on behalf of @easterncongo. Will you? http://bit.ly/15MbxD4,” tweeted Affleck, confirming his inclusion in the project. He is taking part on behalf of the Eastern Congo Initiative, the charity he set up in 2010 to help displaced people in the Eastern Congo. The Oscar-winning director has always been keenly involved in charitable and political movements, and this one’s no different. But how does one ‘live below the line’? $1.50 isn’t very much, and it’s not just food that people attempting the challenge have to contend with. Driving to work, there’s your $1.50 gone right there. Still, it’s most likely a symbolic gesture to show we care. How nice. In terms of food, the official site has some advice on how to not die.

Ben AffleckBen Affleck cares, he really does

"We recommend doing research and creating a shopping list, sticking to generic staples such as pasta, lentils, rice, bread, vegetables, potatoes and oats," the website advises. Affleck (now minus that hearty face-hugger we call a beard) has endeared himself to the masses with his career, but perhaps his politically aware nature, and will to "do more with my life than just make movies and try to make money," supersede his star quality.
