On Wednesday night (June 5) the stars of country music were out in force for the annual CMT Music Awards were held in Nashville, Tennessee, but one famous country face wasn't on show: Blake Shelton. With the singer busy on touring duties, it was up to his proud wife Miranda Lambert to act on his behalf during the nights proceedings.

Lambert was presenting the award for Male Video of the Year for when she read out her husbands name (convenient much), with his single 'Sure Be Cool If You Did' taking away the prize on the night. She explained that the Voice judge had "tried hard to get here," but unfortunately couldn't bend his schedule in such a way that he could get to the awards show from Los Angeles in time. Taking on the responsibilities for herself and her husband on the night, Lambert ended her speech by gleefully announcing, "Honey, I'm drinkin' for two tonight!"

Lambert had plenty of reason to drink the night away too, picking up two gongs on the night herself. She won the Performance of the Year award for her song 'Over You,' thanking Shelton, a co-writer of the song, in her speech, before climbing to the stage again to pick up the female equivalent of the award her husband had won: Video of the Year for 'Mama's Broken Heart,' a song she had performed live earlier in the awards gala.

Among the other winners on the night ere Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Florida George Line (who also picked up two awards), Hunter Hayes and Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Eric Church sharing the Male Performance award.
