Blur showed they haven't missed a beat since their BritPop heyday on Saturday night when they played a hit packed set at the BST festival in London’s Hyde Park. The gig began with singer Damon Albarn handing out ice cream cones to fans in the front row, in celebration of the band’s comeback album The Magic Whip.

The band opened their set with ‘Go Out’ from their latest record, with Albarn telling the crowd, "Let's have it.” "Thanks so much for coming back to see us again," the singer added later. "It's great to be back in Hyde Park. It's like home - well, it is home really. I love it here. I really love it here.”

The last time the band played Hyde Park was in 2012 when they put in a lacklustre performance to celebrate the end of the Olympics. But things were different this time around, as the band seemed reenergised as they stormed through their back catalogue.

The Guardian praised band’s live comeback writing, ‘Blur’s brilliance hits home. Loud and clear’. While Clash Magazine wrote, ‘Blur have rarely been this majestic, this passionate, this imperial. A performance rooted in the here and now, this is a band living for the moment and loving every second.’

Alongside tracks from The Magic Whip, the group also indulged in hits such as ‘There's No Other Way’, ‘Tender’, ‘End Of A Century’ and ‘Song 2’. For BritPop classic ‘Parklife’ the band even wheeled out actor Phil Daniels to do his part, much to the delight of the Hyde Park crowd.

The five piece closed their 23 song strong set with ‘The Universal’ from 1995’s The Great Escape. Now firmly back in business, the band’s next big gig will be at the Benicassim Festival in Spain on July 18th.
