Bruce Jenner has crashed into a ditch during an off-road race.

The 65-year-old former athlete and his son Burt, 36, were taking part in the off-road Baja 1000 race in the Mexican desert when they plunged into a hollow - an accident which led to them requiring medical attention.

Posting an image of the pair on Instagram, Burt said: ''Well I don't want to say the race didn't go as planned, because it did... we had a blast, learned a ton about Baja, made a bunch of new friends who I will remember for life, didn't bend the truck (even though we went off twice) and we came home safe...''

It is believed their injuries were mainly cuts and bruises, but following the incident - which took place last Wednesday (13.11.14) - Burt was spotted wearing a catheter.

Unfortunately, after seeking medical treatment and recovering their truck following the crash - which occurred at the 170-mile mark of the extensive race - the father-and-son duo were forced to pull out due to the time they lost from the crash.

Burt - who Bruce fathered during his first marriage with Chrystie Crownover - posted further details following the race, and praised crew members who helped the pair out.

He wrote: ''In this picture is the group of people who helped us out in the middle of the desert when we broke the truck and offered us pizza and beer and radios... at this point after hours in the desert dad and I were starving, thirsty, and needed a radio to signal our race was over... they pretty much solved all or problems and made life good again. (sic)''

In previous years, numerous racers and spectators have been killed at the event - which costs at least $125,000 to enter - due to the dangerous nature of the course.
