Ya better watch out, Ricky!
Ricky Gervais insisted earlier this week that his jokes about former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner were not meant to be intentionally transphobic, though that still hasn't convinced a lot of people. As for Caitlyn herself, she only has one thing to say about the whole matter: 'I'm going to replace you'.
Caitlyn Jenner hits back at Ricky Gervais
Well, she didn't put it as bluntly, but it was that sort of dignified answer we've come to expect from her. It was only a matter of time before somebody asked her to address the issue, and they did so only four days after the fiasco yesterday (January 14th 2016) during the Television Critics Association's winter press tour which took place in Pasadena, California.
She was asked while promoting season 2 of her documentary series 'I Am Cait', which returns in March, and her response was measured and witty. 'I think what I'm gonna do is call the Golden Globes, and see if they need a new host for next year, and we'll solve that problem', she said.
It will be interesting to see if she lands the gig, then all those who found themselves deeply annoyed and offended by Gervais' humour can officially say the joke's on him. Though it's unlikely he'll be bitter about it since the type of humour he's most famous for is the self-depricating kind.
Just to remind you exactly what was said at the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 10th), here's the so-called 'transphobic' gag: 'I'm gonna be nice tonight, I've changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner obviously, now Caitlyn Jenner of course.' He then went on to reference her fatal car-crash earlier this year where one woman was killed. 'She didn't do a lot for women drivers but you can't have everything can you?' He quipped.
Understandably, there was uproar. Trans-culture is a delicate area, but a frustrated Gervais took to Twitter to defend his words. 'Suggesting a joke about Caitlin Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist', he told his followers.

Whatever people think about his ideas on trans-culture, it certainly seems that he still has a lot of respect for Caitlyn, even Tweeting an article regarding her response to his joke earlier today.
