Those getting excited about the thought of Carrie Fisher returning to her role as Princes Leia in the new Walt Disney Star Wars trilogy just hold onto your horses; according to her rep she was ‘only joking’ when she told the press that she was definitely coming back to her celebrated role.

It certainly seems odd, given that the actress offered a seemingly certain “yes” to Palm Beach Illustrated when asked if she would be coming back for the new Star Wars, that her rep has now told CNN that it was a lie. Nevertheless, "She was joking," they said about the star's comment. "Nothing has been announced."

This terse statement is somewhat at odds with the apparently breezy mood Fisher was in when talking to Palm Beach. Asked on what Leia would be like these days, the actress replied “She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home,” going on to joke “I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

Elsewhere, it’s being rumored that fans can expect more standalone Star Wars films, after comments made by Disney CEO Bob Iger at the annual shareholders meeting. According to The Courier “some standalone movies” were talked about being in development at the meeting. In the comics of Star Wars there have been bigger roles given to the likes of bounty hunter Boba Fett, and with so many to choose from there are certainly plenty of avenues for Disney to go down.
