Magic Mike is a film about dancing men with lots and lots of clothes changes – it’s practically a Broadway production already, if lacking some dramatic singing numbers. All that is about to change, however, as the Channing Tatum starrer is now officially heading to The Big White Way.

Channing Tatum, Oscars Red Carpet
Tatum will co-produce the adaptation.

And yes, while there will definitely be critics, pointing out that the movie really wasn’t all that, the show at least is in some very capable hands. The task of writing the songs has been given to Next To Nothing’s Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, while the script will be penned by Glee’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Deadline reports. The disappointed groans are almost audible at this point. But, while the quality of the writing on Glee is questionable at best, there is still hope for Magic Mike.

Channing Tatum, AMC Event
Unfortunately, he probably won't sing and dance in it.

After all, the musical won’t really have any grand, pressing topics to explore. It definitely won’t be the next Rent, but with writers and composers of this caliber, it might just be an enjoyable enough romp, something to sit and enjoy for two hours, before moving on to the next big thing. Or it might be the next big thing, who knows? Steven Soderbergh, who worked on the movie and Channing Tatum have both signed on as producers. Unfortunately, it looks like Tatum is hanging up his bedazzled tie and will not appear onstage.
