Chris Evans, who plays Captain America (who, FYI, is definitely not the “dullest superhero”), is retiring from acting once his Marvel contract is up so that he can focus on directing.  He's still under contract to film a third Captain America film as well as two more Avengers installments, so don't panic just yet, Evans fans!  We still have a few more films to go with our favourite virtuous superhero.

We can’t wait to find out what kind of director Evans is going to be, it’s often the actors-turned-directors who produce the best films (think Clint Eastwood and Ron Howard). Evans was born to a theatrical mother, Lisa Marie, who is an artistic director at the Concord Youth Theater, while his sister Carly is attended the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts to go on to become a drama teacher and his brother Scott appeared on ABC’s One Life to Live. Obviously having the arts in his genes, it makes sense that Evans is seeing the bigger picture when it comes to his career.

Before taking up the weighty Captain America shield Evans had starred as the Human Torch in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, so many superhero movie fans were surprised to see him appear as a different superhero. Evans signed on to a six movie deal playing Captain America (including three Avengers films) and has been immensely popular in the role. In 2008 Evans starred in Street Kings, a film about a disillusioned undercover cop dealing with the murder of his wife and false implications in the murder of another officer. Clearly enjoying the detective vibe, Evans went on to star in CIA crime drama The Losers, alongside Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana.

Evans also appeared in 2012’s The Iceman, the true story of contract killer Richard Kuklinski, while his upcoming thriller 1:30 to Nowhere is currently in post-production. Looking at Evans’ past projects we predict that when he does turn his hand to directing his movies will be action packed thrillers, it seems to be the genre that he most picks to star in himself.  We wonder if he'll invent a darker superhero, he does seem to enjoy the grittier projects and he may want to work on a character that is the opposite of Captain America after playing him for so many years.

Evans has plenty of experience working in front of the cameras of superhero/action style films so he’ll be more than capable of switching from onscreen to behind the scenes.  We imagine there are some great projects on the horizon for Chris Evans.
