The adventure sequel, starring Chris Pratt, continued its success on both sides of the Atlantic with takings of $17.8 million (£11.1 million) in its second weekend in the U.K., making it only the second film ever to score more than $16 million (£10 million) in its second week of release in Britain, behind the last James Bond movie Skyfall.

Jurassic World has now taken more $1 billion at the global box office and looks set to be one of 2015's biggest hits.

Take That Live, a broadcast of a concert by the British boyband, came in second place in this weekend's U.K. chart with $1.5 million (£965,000) despite only being shown on Friday (19Jun15). It was followed by comedy Spy, which took $1.47 million (£922,000) in its third weekend.

The top five was rounded out by Sir Ian MCKellen's new detective outing Mr Holmes, with $1.2 million (£741,000), and the movie version of hit TV show Entourage with $1 million (£633,000).
