Pop star Christina Aguilera was moved to tears after meeting malnourished children during a recent visit to impoverished regions of Guatemala.
The singer jetted into the Central American country as part of her work as a spokesperson for the World Hunger Relief campaign, travelling to small villages near Lake Atitlan to greet locals in their huts.
And the Beautiful hitmaker was stunned after witnessing their plight for food firsthand - admitting she desperately wanted to hug Concepcion, a pregnant mum who struggles to feed her young daughter.
Aguilera says, "I wanted to see with my own eyes what hunger means. As a mom my heart just breaks when I see how young mothers… struggle to feed their children. I don’t think I can ever forget these images. The people of WFP (World Food Programme) do such a great job helping hungry children and mothers."
And the star is hoping she can raise awareness about the cause to help the young Guatemalan children survive.
She adds, "One of the biggest lessons I’m taking away from this trip is the importance of healthy food. If a child under two doesn’t get the nutrients they need, we can never fix the damage later on."
