Ellie Goulding's new album is ''a break up record.''

The singer announced her second album, 'Halcyon', today (30.07.12) and said it deals with heartbreak - possibly inspired by her split from DJ boyfriend Greg James in January this year.

She said: ''This album for me is a Journey from dark into light, from confusion to understanding. I didn't set out to write a break-up record but I think it became one.

''I'm so incredibly proud of this record, I really can't wait for you all to hear it. Going to post a little teaser later this week I think.''

The album was recorded with producer Jim Elliot - who has previously worked with Kylie Minogue and Ladyhawke - and will be preceded by a single, 'Anything Could Happen', on September 30.

Fans have already has a taste of Ellie's new sound in the shape of one new song, 'Hangin' On', which features rapper Tinie Tempah, and was praised over the weekend by Ed Sheeran, who tweeted: ''Love the new Ellie Goulding tune.''

Ellie - who is now dating dubstep musician Skrillex - will release 'Halcyon'on October 8 2012 in the UK and October 9 in the US.
