Elvis famously never performed a concert outside North America despite his immense popularity abroad, a decision many put down to his Dutch-born manager Colonel Tom Parker not being able to leave the U.S. due to residing illegally there.

However, a $3.6 million (£2.25 million) life insurance policy the Love Me Tender singer filled out a year before he died in August, 1977, which is set to go up for auction, shows he was considering travelling to England and Japan.

The document, dated August 11, 1976, relates to the star's private jet The Lisa Marie, where Elvis ticks a box indicating he was planning to travel outside the U.S. and typed that his planned destinations were Japan and England.

Bosses at Julien's Auctions predict the document, which goes on sale on Saturday (07Nov15), will fetch between $10,000 (£6,250) and $15,000.
