British period dramas ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Wolf Hall’ have each scored three nods at this year’s Emmy Awards.
‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Wolf Hall’ have led the British nominations at this year's Emmy Awards, with both dramas picking up three nods each. While HBO series ‘Game Of Thrones’ might have dominated this year’s nominations with 24 nods, British stars have also flourished with actors Joanne Froggatt, Emma Thompson and Ricky Gervais among the nominees.
‘Downton Abbey’s’ Joanne Froggatt has picked up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama
ITV drama ‘Downton Abbey’ received three nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama for Jim Carter and Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama for Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates. Froggatt was nominated in the same category last year, but lost out to ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Anna Gunn.

BBC six part drama ‘Wolf Hall’ has also scored three nods, including Outstanding Actor in a Mini-series or Movie for Mark Rylance, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie for Damian Lewis and Outstanding Limited Series.
British ‘Game of Thrones’ stars Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke are set to go head-to-head in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama category, with both picking up nods for their work on the HBO series. In the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama category Scottish actor Alan Cumming is nominated for his performance in ‘The Good Wife’.
Emma Thompson scores her sixth Emmy nomination this year, having been nominated in the Outstanding Actress In A Mini-series Or Movie category for the live broadcast of ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ from Lincoln Center.
In the Outstanding Actor in a Mini-series or Movie category British stars dominate with ‘Derek’s’ Ricky Gervais and ‘Nightingale’s’ David Oyelowo going up against Wolf Hall’s Mark Rylance. Rounding off the list of British nominees is ITV’s ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case, Acorn’ which is nominated for Outstanding Television Movie.

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced on September 20th during a live ceremony broadcast on Fox from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hosting the ceremony will be ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine’ star and ‘SNL’ alum Andy Samberg.
