'Eyes Like Sky' is reportedly from the Channel Orange album sessions
We knew that Frank Ocean was planning on getting going on album number two imminently, what we didn’t expect was to hear new material from the Odd Future member and Grammy-winning artist so soon after he’d announced his intentions to follow-up last year’s critically acclaimed Channel Orange.
Frank Ocean at the Grammys; leaked track 'Eyes Like Sky' has appeared on soundcloud
Ok, so the reportedly leaked Eyes Like Sky isn’t technically a ‘new’ cut from the prodigious artist; according to the person who posted it to soundcloud – who goes under the username chosenone – it’s an outtake from the Channel Orange sessions that never made it onto the album. You can listen to it below, though if you take the attached information as truth, it’s hard to ascertain what it means for the direction that Ocean is heading in regards his next release. The track is more guitar-heavy than many of the tracks that did make Channel Orange, an acoustic guitar at the front of the mix to accompany Ocean’s wistful, soul croon.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio One last week, Ocean had said of his forthcoming record "It's another cohesive thing, bordering on a concept record again. At the end of Channel Orange there's 'Golden Girl' and it's this beach scene. And I kind of wanted to extend that feel into the next record altogether, kind of make it that theme." Ocean also touched on potential collaborations with Australian psych band Tame Impala and producer Pharrell Williams, though didn’t say when he expected the record to be out. Until then we have this!
