After the tabloids have been buzzing about George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s engagement for a couple of days, the news is finally official. On Monday, Alamuddin’s law firm issued a statement congratulating the human rights lawyer.

Clooney and Alamuddin have been together since autumn last year.

"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married," the firm said (quote via People).

In a personal statement, Robin Jackson, the firm’s CEO, added his own congratulations, saying: "She brings a bright light to everything she is involved in. And I am so delighted at her happy news."

At this point, the couple are reportedly trying to keep things “low-key.” Accoring to People, a source close to the pair explained the situation like this: "I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real. That they plan on being together forever."

While a rep for Clooney and Alamuddin is yet to address the news directly, almost everyone else connected to this story has already spoken out. This includes Clooney’s mother, Nina who explained that she was “extremely happy” about the engagement. “Amal's a lovely girl,'" she told the Daily Mail. "We weren't at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn't be happier for them."
