Halle Berry's Ex-husband David Justice Felt The Need To Defend Himself Against Longstanding Allegations Of Domestic Abuse During Their Marriage, Because He Didn't Want His Children To "Assume It Was True".
The former baseball player stirred controversy on Monday (02Nov15) when he took to Twitter.com to comment on the X-Men star's latest divorce from Frenchman Olivier Martinez. In the posts, he took aim at the Oscar winner for repeatedly failing to silence decades-old rumours suggesting he was the one who punched her in the ear, leaving her suffering from partial deafness.
"Reading the latest Halle Berry Reports, it wasn't me who hit Halle causing the ear damage," he wrote on the social media site. "Halle has never said that I hit her... It was a former Hollywood boyfriend that she told me (sic)."
Justice, who was married to the star from 1993 to 1997, went on to allege Berry's publicity team allowed the media to speculate on who the abusive ex was in an effort to "destroy my character" - something he claims they have done to all her former partners.
"Yup... Me, Eric (Benet), Gabriel (Aubrey) and Olivier were all her 'Knight in Shining Armor',until it ends..." he added. "Then we all become the worst guys in history."
Singer Eric Benet appeared to back up the allegations, showing his support for Justice by tweeting, "My man at @23davidjustice is tweeting some truth dis' mornin' (sic)!"
Berry, who announced her split from third husband Martinez last week (ends30Oct15), has yet to comment on the online rant, but now Justice has explained why he decided to speak out now.
He tells U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, "Having three kids, (ages) 15, 13 and 11, the careless reporting of me being the one who caused her hearing loss is unacceptable. That was the only purpose of my tweets, really.
"I just felt that if I didn't say anything about this particular thing, my kids' friends might read it and assume that it was true. I'm in the community coaching baseball, football and basketball, and I can't have that."
