Harrison Ford remains in hospital having undergone chest x-rays following an accident on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII at Pinewood Studios. The 71-year-old who is reprising his role as Han Solo in the sci-fi franchise was airlifted to hospital after being crushed by a falling door.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Harrison broke his ankle but the actor has now undergone x-rays on his chest too.

Studio Disney said in a statement, “Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.”

A source close to production tells the industry publication that Ford was injured by the door of the Millennium Falcon, the spacecraft that his character pilots in the original films.

A source told the Daily Mirror, “Harrison was hit by the door and looked in a bad way and was clutching his chest when he was on the stretcher…He is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and no chances were being taken so he got into a helicopter and was taken away in a lot of pain. His foot was damaged too." 

The rest of the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII – including John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’oo, Max Von Sydow, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Domhnall Gleeson – are continuing to shoot at Pinewood.

The accident comes just a month after Ford discussed his age at the Cannes Film Festival, with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Gibson.

“Precautions are not in the budget. Everyone gets hurt, there’s no way around it. You didn't have CGI back then [at the start of their careers], you just did it. That's kind of what we take pride in actually, keeping taking the bumps and bruises” said Stallone.
