Jake Bugg has called One Direction ''terrible'' and doesn't understand why the award-winning group have been compared to the likes of iconic musicians The Beatles.
Jake Bugg has labelled One Direction ''terrible''.
The 'Lightning Bolt' musician struggles to see why the 'Kiss You' hitmakers - who took home the Global Success award at the BRITs on Wednesday (20.02.13) - have been compared to iconic bands such as The Beatles as he thinks the five-piece aren't even talented enough to write their own material.
He told Short List magazine: ''Who the f**k is saying [they're the closest thing to rock stars we have these days]? Oh, I'm pretty sure they have a good laugh. But it's easy to, isn't it? When you don't have to write any songs.
''People [call them the new Beatles] because they broke America, but that don't mean a thing. I mean, [One Direction] must know that they're terrible.
''They must know ... calling them the new rock stars is a ridiculous statement. And people should stop making it.''
Band members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson have since hit back at the 18-year-old singer, angered that the comments were made by someone they are a fan of.
Niall wrote on his Twitter: ''Really bugs me that artists we're fans of flip on us in the press ! (sic)'', with Louis joining in: ''Hi @JakeBugg, do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie ? (sic)''
