'Constellations' sees romance bloom between two unusual young people.
We're not sure how many science based stage shows are out there but 'Constellations' sure has something for everyone, and elegantly performed on stage by Ruth Wilson and Jake Gyllenhaal in their Broadway debuts.
Jake Gyllenhaal kisses Ruth Wilson in 'Constellations'
It's certainly a thrill to see Jake Gyllenhaal back on stage, particularly in light of his impressive character interpretations in recent times ('Nightcrawler' and 'Enemy' blew us away), but to see him finally hit Broadway in such a unique production as 'Constellations' is seriously exciting. Mixing the world of quantum physics with touching romance, the show opened at the Friedman Theatre in New York.

Jake Gyllenhaal makes his Broadway debut in 'Constellations'
Directed by British playwright Nick Payne, the show's original run took place in London in 2012 with Rafe Spall and Sally Hawkins in the lead (or, only) roles. It follows the meeting of two young people; beekeeper Roland and Cambridge student Marianne; and the multitude of possible events that could've occurred afterwards, drawing on elements of string theory, relativity and quantum physics. It's a show that appeals to the intellectual, the cultural and the romantic and explores the mundane world of everyday in a very non-everyday sort of way.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson hold hands in 'Constellations'
Gyllenhaal's Broadway stint was inevitable since he first dabbled in theatre with 2002's 'This is Our Youth'; a coming-of-age show in which he appeared during its London run. He followed that with Nick Payne's 2012 play 'If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet', during which time Wilson was also looking at follow-up stage roles to her appearances in the likes of 'Anna Christie', 'Through a Glass Darkly' and 'A Streetcar Named Desire'.
'Constellations' is set to run until March 15th 2015.
