The Tribeca Film Festival 2012 announced half of its line-up on Tuesday (March 6, 2012) with Oscar-nominated actor James Franco confirmed to screen his behind-the-scenes General Hospital feature film 'Francophrenia'. The movie will have its North American Premiere at the illustrious film festival, which celebrates its 11th year between April 18-29, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Franco's film, alternatively titled 'Don't Kill Me, I Know Where the Baby Is', is described as a "humorous psycho-thriller', made after Franco wrote a new script for existing footage of General Hospital - where he has a recurring role as an avant-garde artist. Tribeca's director or programming Genna Terranova said, "He's kind of constructed this really interesting and well-crafted film about that experience that plays with the boundaries of documentary. It's a bit tongue in cheek, as James himself can be. He's a bit enigmatic and the film is as well". Elsewhere at this year's festival, 'While We Were Here' starring Kate Bosworth is being tipped as one of the highlights, with Terranova saying, "I think people will be talking about Kate's performance in this movie. It's very subtle and delicate, and it's a side of her that you really haven't seen before". The movie follows the story of an unhappily married writer who has an affair with an American man while vacationing in Italy. In total, the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival boasts feature films from 32 different countries, including 54 world premieres and 33 movies from first-time directors. Chief creative officer Geoffrey Gilmore said, "So much of the core of what we do is this bridge between America and the international universe and vice versa. You can show a documentary about a country in which the president of that country is sitting there watching it along with the audience. It's very much that New York experience."
James Franco is currently working on no-less than eight movie projects for 2012 and 2013, including drama 'Maladies' and 'Tar' - a biopic of the author C.K Williams, also starring MILA KUNIS.
