Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay has spent a massive $180,000 (GBP100,000) on a go-karting track - in a bid to satisfy his passion for fast cars while he's banned from driving on the road.

The VIRTUAL INSANITY star was devastated last week (ends10SEP04) when courts confiscated his licence until next March (05), following his arrest in February (04) for reaching speeds in excess of 169 kilometres per hour (105 miles per hour).

But the keen car collector responded by ordering a track to be built at his Buckinghamshire, England, mansion, so he can drive around all day without breaking the law.

A friend tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "He was nearly in tears when he was caught speeding earlier this year. Driving is like a drug for Jay and this is the only way that he can legally get around his ban.

"He has already tried it out. He's like a kid with a new toy."

Jay Kay has also paid out for ramps, crash barriers, a pit lane and two top-of-the-range go-karts for the newly installed track.
