Soul Star Janelle Monae Is Fronting A New Voter Registration Campaign To Encourage More U.s. Youths To Get Politically Involved Ahead Of The 2016 Presidential Elections.
The Tightrope hitmaker has teamed up with White House officials to call on youngsters to use their voices to make a positive change in honour of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday (22Sep15).
Marking the launch of the new initiative on Twitter.com on Tuesday, President Barack Obama writes, "Our right to vote is sacred. It's the foundation of our democracy. You can find out how to register to vote at http://vote.usa.gov."
Organisers are aiming to reduce the number of Americans who are eligible to vote but have yet to register, which currently stands at an estimated 50 million.
Monae is the latest star to urge the public to register to vote - actresses Whoopi Goldberg, Lena Dunham and Sophia Bush previously threw their support behind 2014's Rock the Vote campaign, while Eva Longoria and Rosario Dawson have both also established their own organisations to boost the number of Latino voters at the polls.
