Actor and singer Jared Leto was treated to a surprise beard trim when he made an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’ on Wednesday. Host Jimmy Fallon, in his trademark style, offered the 42 year old star some advice.

“I’d take the beard down a notch,” he said. Leto replied “I have been asked to do some resurrections lately”, in reference to his impressive beard and long hair.

Fallon then said “I’ve got some clippers here if you don’t mind”, and proceeded to put a blue barber’s cape over Leto, who reacted “Right here, right now? Holy s**t!” Earlier in the show, Leto and Fallon performed together in a comedy skit that featured both men playing an intense staring competition.

In addition to the interview and unexpected facial hair rearrangements, Leto performed on the show with his group 30 Seconds To Mars and a 30-second clip of the video for their latest single 'City of Angels', also directed by Leto, was shown.

On top of his huge success with his band, which has sold over 10 million copies of its four albums around the world, Leto is also a celebrated actor. He won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor earlier this year for his performance as a transgender woman in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club. He has also starred in cult and commercial successes such as Fight Club, Panic Room and American Psycho.

Only the night before, Fallon challenged James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan to a showdown on the N64 game GoldenEye.

Fallon also administered the ALS Ice Bucket challenge, the current internet viral craze that raises awareness of neurological disorders. Fellow guest Lindsay Lohan was the recipient and took her soaking in good humour.
